Hair @ Berklee Performance Center

4/23/2013 09:35:00 PM 0 Responses
Berklee’s Musical Theater Ensemble and Musical Theater Orchestra present a fully staged production of the Broadway musical Hair on April 25 and 26. Inspired by the peace movement and the social revolution of the 1960s, Hair's songs, including “Aquarius,” “Easy to be Heard,” and “Let the Sunshine In,” became anthems of the anti-Vietnam war movement and opened Broadway theater to rock music.

Hair: An American Tribal Love-Rock Musical takes place Thursday, April 25 and Friday, April 26, 7:30 p.m., at the Berklee Performance Center (BPC), 136 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston. The production is part of the Signature Music Series at Berklee. Reserved seating tickets are on sale now for $8 and $16 in advance, $12 and $20 day of show at berklee.edu/bpc.

Students leading the 22 cast and 11 orchestra members include Carla Martinez, choreographer and president of the Musical Theater Club—the largest club at Berklee with 500 members; Kelton Washington, assistant director; and Cam Moncur, vocal music director; all of whom worked on Berklee’s sold-out production of Rent, among other musicals.

SKATERS @ Brighton Music Hall - 4/12

4/02/2013 10:00:00 PM 0 Responses
It's been a while since I've been to a good concert.  I just watched the new SKATERS video, methinks I'm going to go check them out.

New York melodic rock band  SKATERS have announced their first tour in support of their debut Warner Bros. records single, “I Wanna Dance” (But I Don’t Know How)” b/w “Armed”, set for release on April 9th.

As the story goes, Michael Ian Cummings and Noah Rubin formed SKATERS in 2012, and spent a year trading demos between Los Angeles and London with guitarist Joshua Hubbard. A few months later, the three met up in a Chinatown (NYC) loft to created their own art zine, YONKS, and record their debut EP, Schemers, which was given away for free on the band’s website and drew immediate critical praise:

Apr 12                   Boston MA,                        Brighton Music Hall

SKATERS debut full-length will be released by Warner Bros. Records this summer. In the meantime, the band will release their first 7-inch single on April 9th, which will feature tracks “I Wanna Dance (But I Don’t Know How)” and “Armed.” Check out the band when they perform at SXSW in Austin, Texas, this March and stay tuned for SKATERS’ first headlining tour to kick off in April. More details to be announced soon.
