BoSoma Dance Company will be presenting their fall show MOVING TARGET with guest company Patricia Kenny Dance Collection of New York under the direction of Patricia Kenny Reilly, formerly David Parsons. This show will feature new work by Artistic Directors Katherine Hooper and Irada Djelassi. MOVING TARGET premiers November 2-3, 2012 at the Boston University Dance Theater.

True story, I went to a new sushi restaurant last night.  The waitress asked me what I'd like to drink and I said, "I'll have whatever you think I'll enjoy."  She brought me a lychee martini.  I was expecting some sort of whiskey in glass with perhaps a cube or two of ice.  But apparently, I look like a lychee martini drinker.

That being said, I can't remember the last time I had a pink drink.  But for you guys at the Ellie Fund, it looks like I will.  Any recommendations?  I'm not even sure where to begin.

So, USA Today released an article a few days ago about the top 10 Best Beer Cities in the World, and it looks like we made the cut!  We share the honor with these other great beer cities:  Munich, Denver, Montreal, Amsterdam, Milwaukee, Dublin, Portland, Brussells, and Prague.  Here's what they had to say about Boston:

What to See: Beantown is the home of the Samuel Adams brewery, named after the American revolutionary and malt producer. Take a $2 tour, during which you can smell hops, taste malts, and sample some seasonal suds. The smaller Harpoon Brewery has tastings and tours, as well as Boston's annual Harpoon Octoberfest, a festival celebrating beer, music, and New England fall foliage. Oh, and keg bowling. 

Where to Drink: Fight the Boston University students for a seat at Deep Ellum or Sunset Grill & Tap; both curate lengthy, highbrow beer lists and employ servers with sommelier-like skills. Boston Beer Works features a winning, seasonal selection of homebrewed drafts named after Boston landmarks, including Bunker Hill Blueberry Ale and Fenway American Pale Ale.

Just when you thought it had all been done, Chef Paul Turano of Tryst Restaurant North of Boston in Arlington, MA has partnered with Quad Cycles, Verrill Farm and Walden Pond for another unique culinary experience. On Sunday, October 21st, 2012, those with a passion for food and adventure will experience the flavors of fall on Tryst’s Second Annual Culinary Bike Tour!
This one-day excursion will highlight the best of local flavors as riders embark on a 35-mile bike ride, making stops at some of the best local food & wine purveyors including Verrill Farms in Concord, MA, historical Walden Pond in Concord, MA and finally Tryst in Arlington, MA.

Have you every laughed so hard it hurt? Come enjoy a night of comedy with 3 top comedians benefitting the Brain Aneurysm Foundation. Prince Pizzeria on Rt. 1 in Saugus will be turned into a land of laughter with 3 comedians from the Giggles Comedy Club on October 19, 2012.

This event will kick off with comedian Sal Votano, an up and coming star, followed by Artie Januario. who has opened for Dom Irrera, Richard Lewis, Lenny Clarke, and many other national headliners. The headliner, Paul Gilligan is a regular performer in Las Vegas, and one of the most requested comedians in Boston. He’ll bring down the house with an attitude first developed as a high school class clown, and with material culled from his life as a blue collar worker, husband and father.

The Boston Conservatory Opera presents FABLES…and Other Fables, an immersive opera theater performance, on Saturday, Oct 13 at noon. An immersive opera theater performance children and their families, FABLES...and Other Fables is an interactive storytelling experience. Combining visual and vocal arts presented by singers from The Boston Conservatory, our young audience members will create the performance space, drawing and shaping the set. Staged art songs based on fables and children's texts from the classical and expanded repertoire will be featured alongside 20th-century composer Ned Rorem's rarely heard mini-operas, Fables, the cornerstone in this unique and clever artistic experience for the young and the young-at-heart.

Confession time.  I'm really, really, really NOT into politics.  And I know, if I don't vote, then I can't complain.  Therefore, I don't complain.  I did get an email recently, though, letting me know that there is a vote coming up to legalize medical marijuana.

I find that interesting.  I still remember when we couldn't buy alcohol on Sundays.  Now we're legalizing medical marijuana?  Look how progressive we've become. 

If Massachusetts voters approve Question 3 on the November ballot, the state will permit up to 35 nonprofit “medical marijuana treatment centers” around the state. Those centers will be allowed to sell a 60-day supply of pot to anyone with a doctor’s note that’s been approved by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. (The ballot question leaves it to the Department of Public Health to define what constitutes a 60-day supply.) Patients with a financial hardship or without access to a dispensary may also be allowed to grow an equivalent amount of pot.

Medical marijuana has been overwhelmingly popular with American voters since California put up the first citizens’ ballot, in 1996. In all, 17 states and the District of Columbia have legalized the drug for medicinal use....

Boston Magazine has an article on this for those of you who are interested.  I made it through the first three pages before my A.D.D. kicked in and I lost interest.  I'm not a smoker, so It doesn't really affect me.  That is until I get diagnosed with glaucoma, I suppose.
