Dunkin Donuts has an App Now

8/27/2012 08:43:00 PM 1 Response
2 of my coworkers drink nothing but Dunkin Donuts each morning.  One for the coffee, one for the tea.  They refuse to go anywhere else.  It's uncanny.  I'm going to suggest they check out this new app that DD just launched.

People can now run on Dunkin’ more quickly and conveniently than ever before, as Dunkin’ Donuts, America’s all-day, everyday stop for coffee and baked goods, launched its first-ever mobile application for payment and gifting for iPhone, iPod touch and Android smartphones. With the new Dunkin’ App, paying for food, beverages, and merchandise at Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants throughout the U.S. is as simple and speedy as scanning your smartphone using a mobile Dunkin' Donuts Card in-store or at the drive-thru. Additionally, with the App’s mGift feature, Dunkin’ Donuts becomes the first national coffee retailer to enable people to send virtual gift cards three ways – text, email, and Facebook Connect.

The Dunkin’ App, available for free from the App Store and Google Play Store, connects guests to the brand with an exciting array of new tools and information to make any Dunkin’ run easier and faster, including:

Purchase, manage, and reload a Dunkin’ Donuts Card: Guests can purchase a new mobile Dunkin’ Donuts Card (selecting from multiple designs for many occasions), add money to an existing card, and view all previous card transactions. The Dunkin’ Mobile App supports American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and PayPal.

Pay right from the app using a virtual Dunkin’ Donuts Card: Guests can purchase Dunkin’ Donuts products with the Dunkin’ App by simply tapping the mobile Dunkin’ Donuts Card and presenting the screen to the crew member to be scanned. Balances are updated immediately after purchase.

Send an mGift: Dunkin’ Donuts Cards can be sent to friends, family, or colleagues via email, text, or Facebook. Dunkin’ Donuts is now the only national coffee retailer to offer people all of these options for sending an mGift. Dunkin’ Donuts Cards can be sent in denominations between $2 and $100.

Locate the nearest Dunkin’ Donuts: A detailed restaurant locator makes it easy to find directions to and information about local Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants, including store hours, in-store Wi-Fi, drive-thru availability, and more.

Find nutritional information: The Dunkin’ App makes nutritional facts available for guests’ favorite Dunkin’ Donuts menu items.

It Pays to Read the Beantown Bloggery: St. Croix Edition

Define "jealousy."

See below for a couple of email exchanges I had recently with Bloggery Reader Kristen:

Message #1

Beantown Bloggery,

So I had to message you because I actually won the Dirty Water TV/Captain Morgan Black sweepstakes you posted on your blog! They're giving me a free trip to St. Croix!! Isn't that crazy? I was so surprised! Last night I met up with the people from Dirty Water TV and they had me do a short interview. Anyway, I had to let you know and thank you for posting the contest on your blog.

Message #2

Hey!

I just got back from St. Croix and it was amazing! The island was beautiful. We rented a jeep and did some off-roading in the rainforest and took a snorkeling trip to a nearby coral reef. We also took a tour of the Captain Morgan distillery and had some great drinks there. Attached are a few photos of the trip. Thanks so much again for posting this contest on your blog!

See!  So it pays to read the Beantown Bloggery.  For those of you who weren't reading back in May, here's the original contest post (here).  And if you're still not subscribing, you really should be.  So you can win things and make me jealous of you as well.

Dear Captain Morgan & Dirty Water, where's MY trip to St. Croix??  Just kidding .... sort of .... not really ...

GympPact & RunKeeper Collaboration - 8/27

8/26/2012 08:52:00 PM 0 Responses
Always good to hear from old folks.  I first blogged about GymPact when they launched 2 years ago (here) and it looks like they've grown significantly in that time.  Here's the latest that they shot over to me:

GymPact now has over 46,000 signups and are launched internationally.  GymPact is launching a very cool new integration with RunKeeper on Aug 27th. Now, users can make a Pact to exercise and complete it by running, biking or walking for 30 minutes as well as going to the gym. You get paid for meeting your Pact, paid for by non-exercisers!

We're giving the first 1000 people that do a RunKeeper workout with GymPact an extra $5 in rewards, and we'd love to give some of your readers special early access.  Do you think this might be interesting for them?

I'm going got go with "Yes."  Because my readers love early access to everything.  Who doesn't?  This is one of those moments where Sept 12 can't come soon enough - so I can switch back to iPhone.

Sponsored Post: University of Alabama Store

8/25/2012 11:15:00 AM 0 Responses
Every couple of years, I head back to the Coop to pick up a new MIT t-shirt and a new hoodie as well.  Never realized that I'm a little spoiled since it's right here in town.  That is until I got an email from the folks over at the University of Alabama online store asking me to blog about them.  My first reaction was "why of all the blogs out there would they want me to blog about them?"  Then I realized, there's got to be a few of you reading that went to the University of Alabama before getting transplanted up here.  So this post of is for you guys.

If you're feeling nostalgic for the good 'ol days.  Or if you're like one of my several pregnant female friends, here's a chance to pick up something for yourself or something for the incoming little one.

And while typing this up, I just realized there's also those of you who are college football fans.  I personally don't know anything about college football (I didn't know MIT had a football team until my senior year).  And I'm too busy cheering for the Pats anywaz.  College football starts soon right?  Time to get your University of Alabama shirts and gear.

Sponsored Post: Galapagos Explorer II

8/19/2012 09:19:00 PM 1 Response
In the past, I always worked for small companies.  My first job was in a company of about 25-30.  Then I moved on to a company of 3 people, then I did my own startups (company of 1).  Now, I'm working for a big corporate bank with I assume thousands of employees.  Quite the change of pace.  But you know what?  I kind of like it.  Having coworkers and more importantly, real vacations.

This year, I went to Europe for the first time - it was awesome.  And now I'm already thinking about next year ... or if at all possible ... later this year.

The folks over at Galapogos Explorer asked me to take a look at their site and let you guys know what I thought.  I've never been to South America, so if I were to head down there for 2 weeks, it might be nice to do a 4 day cruise to the Galapagos.

Did I mention, I've never been on a cruise before either?  From looking around on their website, it looks like they have a decent amount of activities:  snorkeling, whale watching, karaoke, stargazing, island excursions.

Now I just need to find people to go with me.  I'm thinking maybe surf camp in Costa Rica for a week and then maybe one of these Galapagos Cruises

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of My Well-Being Powered by Humana for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

MWB Logo (3)

The folks over at My Well-Being.com asked that I check out their website and let you guys know what I thought of it.  First impression?  This site must be geared towards an older demographic because all the pictures are of folks that look like my grandparents.  Nevertheless, I spent a little bit of time checking out some of the articles, because I'm a little bit of a self-help junkie.

The site is free to join and given that it's powered by Humana (which I believe is an insurance company), I figure there must be some useful information on how to stay healthy.  I have Blue Cross Blue Shield at work and those guys are always sending me emails about how to exercise more, eat less, drink less, quit smoking, and so on and so forth.  Oh and you get a FREE Dummies book when you join as well.  There are 3 you get to choose from.

The website has all sorts of articles on health and wellness - physical, financial, and social (mostly married people stuff which doesn't really help me out, but it's good to know it's there).  I think I spent most of my time on "games" and "videos" portion of the site.

Checkout the video below for a little more info:

About MyWell-Being from mywell-being on Vimeo.

Overall, I think the site has some good information to offer for those a little older (or just more mature/responsible) than me.  I'm still in the "live recklessly & spend recklessly" stage of life, but I'll keep this guy bookmarked for when I finally grow up.  Hopefully it's soon.

Lobster Rolls Part II: Alive & Kicking

8/16/2012 09:10:00 PM 0 Responses
Possibly my favorite place.  Alive & Kicking has a lobster "sandwich" that is delicious and fairly inexpensive.  I remember when it was $10 bucks (many years ago) and now it's $14.

It's been a while since I've been back.  Since then, they've added a new sign out front, new food (chowder) and a new covered seating area.  Man, I need to get out more.

Lobster Rolls Part I: B&G Oysters

8/14/2012 09:26:00 PM 0 Responses
I used to live above the Stephanie's on Tremont Street in the South End.  Back then it was a different place called the Garden of Eden.  They had great cookies there.  I loved living there.  One of the main reasons was because B&G Oysters was across the street.  I ate there A LOT.

It's been a while since I've been there so I decided to spend this past weekend stuffing my face with lobster rolls.  So here's part 1.  A dozen and a half oysters and a lobster roll.

The Most Creative Swag of All Time

8/10/2012 11:34:00 PM 0 Responses
This would have come in handy for me about a week ago.  We had a client event this past week at work and we needed to order stuff to give away to clients.  We ended up going with monogrammed gym bags containing a fleece vest, a water bottle, and a frisbee - all monogrammed with our company logo.  Everyone seemed to want one of the grab bags, but do you think it actually worked?  Or is it just the "free stuff" factor that gets people excited and then ultimately nothing gets used?

I'm not sure, but all I know is I have a new gym bag to hit the gym with, so I'm happy.

Sponsored Post: Fry Fabrications

8/10/2012 11:23:00 PM 0 Responses
Once upon a time, I was part of a fraternity and I lived in the frat house.  We had house meetings every week and we voted on everything as a collective.  One of the things that we voted on was purchasing new stuff for the house (furniture, televisions, etc).  And every single time it would go a little like this:

Person 1:  "Motion to buy an even more ridiculously humongous tv for the common room."  It's 1000 bucks.  Divided by 30 of us, that's basically zero dollars per person.
Person 2:  "I second the motion"
Secretary:  "All in favor, say I........."

And that's how we bought everything.  Divided by 30, everything rounded down to zero dollars per person.  We were idiots.  But it was pretty effective.  We pretty much bought everything that was ever suggested.

That being said, I know that our house is currently in need of a new bar, therefore if I was still there, I'd motion that we procur one from the folks over at Fry Fab.   They've got a nice one for about 1200 bucks (which divided by 30 is about 40 bucks a person).  See how I've matured?  I don't say it's "basically zero" anymore.  Here's a little bit more about Fry Fabrications

Fry Fabrications is a metal fabrication firm that designs and produces merchandising and beverage displays for retail, restaurants, nightclubs and bars, as well as custom, branded products for on-premise marketing. With in-house expertise in marketing, trade show planning, retail fixtures, portable beverage services (including wet bars and bottle service organizers), a solid merchandising plan can be created around each client's logo, style and marketing strategy.

I hafta say, I kinda have my eye on their drink carriers.  I think one of them might go quite nicely on my coffee table.  It'd be fun for when I have folks over for drinks.

Julia Child Turns 100 on 8/15

8/01/2012 09:44:00 PM 0 Responses
One of the best steaks I've ever had is the dry aged ribeye at Grill 23.  So the fact that they've got a special one coming up to celebrate Julia Child's 100th birthday, means I need to have one.

Happy 100th Julia!

Chef Jay Murray Presents a 100 Day Aged Ribeye
In Julia's Honor
at Boston's Grill 23 & Bar

Boston, MA....Chef Jay Murray remembers when his mother called Julia Child on her home phone back when he was a boy, to ask questions about Julia's recipe for vegetarian plum pudding.  Jay recalls being amazed that Julia Child answered the phone herself, and helped his mom with the recipe.

"That was pure Julia" recalls Jay.  "She made food approachable for all of us."  Rather than go the vegetarian plum pudding route, Jay is presenting a 100 Day Aged Ribeye in Julia's honor at Boston's famed Grill 23 & Bar steakhouse.  We think Julia would approve.
