Quidditch Champions Series - 4/28

4/21/2012 03:01:00 PM
So, I've read all the Harry Potter books and the first and half of the 2nd of the Hunger Games books.  If I were to choose which series I like better, it's going to have to be Harry Potter.  That being said, I'm a little curious to see this real life adaptation of Quidditch.

Next weekend, on Saturday, April 28th, the Boston Cannons, (2011 major league lacrosse champions) are co-hosting a tournament at Harvard with the International Quidditch Association, called the Quidditch Champions Series. This is the first time that a professional sports team is recognizing Quidditch as a new and legitimate sport and for the occasion, nine of the top teams in the IQA are flying in from around the country, including teams from Los Angeles, Minnesota, Vermont, and Maryland.

Checkout the video below, it's pretty interesting.

The tournament runs for three hours at the Harvard Athletic Complex and admission includes access to the Boston Cannons season opener in Harvard’s historic football stadium versus the Rochester Rattlers. More than 10,000 people have attended this event in past years, and it’s a big family audience. Quidditch is a real-life version from the sport in the harry potter books; it is full-contact, co-ed, and features a human snitch and comedic announcers that make the game both thrilling as a sport and highly entertaining as a spectacle, for people of all ages to watch.

Tickets are offered at a discounted rate through the IQA at $15, and include access to more than five hours of sports at Harvard’s state of the art facilities.

  1. Anonymous Said,

My daughter plays for UVM, so I admit to being biased, but the matches we have attended including the World Cup in NYC last fall were a blast! Highly entertaining and some great feats of athleticism too.
