Review: Snap!

First off, happy birthday to Bloggery media rep DanDan.  I will be hungover for several days thanks to you.  Secondly, see below for his review of SNAP!

I recently got the chance to swing by The Hawthorne and taste one of the newest spirits to hit Boston: SNAP!

This spirit, inspired by ginger snaps, packs a punch at 80 proof and tastes sweet, without being too syrupy like many liqueurs. SNAP, made organically from hearty black strap molasses, fresh ginger root, clove, brown sugar, rooibos tea, cinnamon, nutmeg and pure sugar cane, makes a great base to any cocktail.

While there, I tried several SNAP based cocktails including a cinnamon-y Snapback (SNAP, calvados, cinnamon, lemon juice and allspice), a perfectly balanced SNAP-Break (rye, SNAP, rooibos, cardamaro, and angostura orange), a creamy SNAP Flip (bourbon, SNAP, egg, cinnamon, and angostura and mole bitters) and even tried rolling my own with a SNAP Old Fashioned (absolutely delicious!) and a SNAP and fernet cocktail. Not only was SNAP great as a standalone, but it added a good deal of complexity to every mixed drink I tried.

In addition to The Hawthorne, you can find SNAP based cocktails at Sweet Cheeks BBQ and Foundry on Elm in Somerville. Definitely worth heading out and giving it a try!
