Certified Neapolitan Pizza @ Posto

9/29/2011 10:04:00 PM 0 Responses
You're about to learn WAYYYYY more about pizza than you ever knew.  And then immediately go to Posto to check it out.  That's my plan.

Executive Chef/Owner Joe Cassinelli is excited to announce that Posto in Davis Square has just been certified by the AVPN -- Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana, as an “official Neapolitan pizzeria” – the only such restaurant to pass and receive certification in New England, including Boston.

This past month, Giulio Adriani, travelled from Naples, Italy to ‘inspect’ Posto Chef Cassinelli’s technique and execution of Neapolitan pizza. After some serious and grueling tests, it was determined that Posto would in fact pass the certification process --the very first in the area!

"Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana" ("True Neapolitan Pizza Association"), which was founded in 1984 and only recognizes the Marinara and Margherita verace, has set the very specific rules that must be followed for an authentic Neapolitan pizza.

These include that the pizza must be baked in a wood-fired, domed oven at 485°C for no more than 60 to 90 seconds; that the base must be hand-kneaded and must not be rolled with a pin or prepared by any mechanical means (i pizzaioli — the pizza makers — make the pizza by rolling it with their fingers) and that the pizza must not exceed 35 centimetres in diameter or be more than one-third of a centimetre thick at the centre. The association also selects pizzerias all around the world to produce and spread the verace pizza napoletana philosophy and method.

Congrats to Posto!  Save me a slice.

The folks at Filmshift are back again this year for the 2nd Annual Filmshift Festival starting this weekend - 10/1.

The 2nd Annual Filmshift Festival, screening at the Somerville Theater takes place this October 1, 2, 8, 9. Somerville Local First, Improv Boston, Mass Movie Mavens, and Cambridge Naturals are local sponsors again and we are featuring a number of local Boston films this year.

Filmshift was created to support local/green businesses, the art of film, and our local charity, Christopher's Haven, an organization that provides housing for families of children receiving cancer treatment in the Boston area.

Some of the films include “Marwencol” an award-winning documentary about a man who creates his own imaginary world to cope with a brutal beating, “Burden,” a special effects-heavy sci-fi short that features the voice of “The Transformer’s” Optimus Prime, and “Orbiting Texas,” an intimate look at the seminal 90's Boston band, Orbit, by a former WFNX DJ Mike Giosha. Other local films this year include a film about the Somerville Road Runners and the award-winning "Baystate Blues."

Music: Ellis Ashbrook @ Church - 9/30

9/28/2011 08:35:00 PM 0 Responses
So I'm going through a bit of a dry spell ...... musically.  I can't remember the last time I've been to a concert.  I think it may have been Kings of Leon a really longgggggg time ago.  How sad.

I just received word that Ellis Ashbrook (a once local band) is going to be in town this Friday.  I hadn't heard of them before, but I checked out their website and youtube vids.  Pretty cool sound.  A lil rock, a lil loungey - and I like the singer's voice.  Check it out.

Ellis Ashbrook. The exploratory rock band will be performing at Church (69 Kilmarnock St, Boston) this Friday, September 30th. The band actually got its start in the Boston area before relocating to Brooklyn, NY, so this show is a bit of a homecoming for them.

1000 Words: Dessert Showcase 2011

9/25/2011 10:18:00 PM 0 Responses
I don't eat a whole lot of desserts, but there are a few things I have weaknesses for.   For instance, I eat chocolate covered pretzels like it's my job.  And then there's bread pudding ...  MMMmmMMMM bread pudding.  I was relieved when Bloggery media rep Sara graciously agreed to go to the Dessert Showcase (here), cover the event, and save me from a bout of early onset type II diabetes.

Being a self-proclaimed chocoholic, I was so excited to attend the New England Dessert Showcase put on by the Anthem Group. Although I didn’t happen to see the world’s biggest Boston Cream Pie, I was quite impressed by the over-ten-foot-long cannoli being displayed in the center of the event room.

Some of the most unusual desserts featured at the showcase ended up being my favorites, such as the
colorful Singaporean pastries from Kueh. Their desserts highlighted numerous textures and flavors, and I particularly enjoyed the sticky rice cake with coconut. Another favorite were the hand-made superfood bars from BudiBar. Made with almonds, Chia seeds, dark chocolate, coconut, and more, these bars were a delicious and filling snack that were both sweet and healthy. Lastly, I especially savored the traditional warm chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream, chocolate drizzle, and heath bar bits from the Chart House – trĂ©s delish!

Life is Good Festival - 9/24 & 9/25

9/14/2011 09:48:00 PM 1 Response
Every year the folks over at Life is Good put on an awesome festival.  This year it happens to be out in the 'burbs, which makes it a little harder to get to, but thank goodness for Zipcar.

Life is good® is excited to announce that musicians from the Boston Pops have signed on to play at the 2011 Life is good Festival. World-class musicians from the Pops’ string and brass sections led by guest conductor Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR) will join Brandi Carlile and The Levon Helm Band for portions of their individual sets on Sunday, September 25, 2011.

Set to take place September 24-25 at Prowse Farm in Canton, MA, a suburb of Boston, the two-day music and fundraising festival is hosted by Life is good®, a Boston-based company that spreads the power of optimism through its colorful collection of apparel and accessories and through its social mission to help kids overcome life-threatening challenges.

Adult single-day tickets are $65, and $120 two-day tickets are also available. Tickets for children ages 2-12 are available for $20 for a single day ticket and $35 for a two-day ticket. Children under 2 are admitted free of charge. Prowse Farm is fully accessible via public transportation, with all-day shuttles to and from the nearby Rte. 128/University Avenue train station. A large number of free parking spots are also available.

I was walking to work today listening to one of my favorite classical cds (Yo Yo Ma Plays Ennio Morricone) and I realized that it's been too long since I've heard the Pops.

Summer Fordcast Tour - 9/17

9/13/2011 09:53:00 PM 0 Responses
I went out of town this weekend and had to rent a car.  I have to admit.  I kinda miss driving.  But I don't miss the car payments, insurance, and ridiculous price of monthly parking downtown.  Speaking of cars, the folks over at the Fordcast Tour are coming to Boston for the upcoming MixFest event and South Boston Street Festival, both taking place this Saturday (9/17.

If you are unfamiliar with the Fordcast Tour, it is an awesome summer-long tour created to celebrate the launch of the new 2012 Ford Focus. The Fordcast team has been making stops all across the northeast at music, sports and food festivals and they only have two weeks of the tour left.

At the MixFest event, the Ford Fotobooth will available for you to strike a pose in! We should also mention that there will be 2012 Ford Focus vehicles on-site for attendees to check out in person. This vehicle has everything someone would want in a car – MyFord Touch capabilities that include voice commands and a rear-view camera, heated seats for those cold winter nights and best of all; it gets 40 miles per gallon!

Ok, so 40 miles a gallon sounds pretty impressive ... considering my old Yukon Denali got me about 13 in the city.  When I took it out on road trips I could actually see the gas needle physically moving towards 'Empty.'  It was horrifying.

Click (here) fore more info on the Summer Fordcast Tour.

PS.  They're also running a contest for a $5000 dream vacation.  Given, the precedent that has now been set for Bloggery readers winning contests on other sites.  I would say that you should enter, win, and then take me with you.

Leaving The River Opening Reception - 9/8

9/06/2011 10:27:00 PM 0 Responses
After I received this email, I went on wikipedia to look up the West End. I have to admit, I didn't know much about that area and now that I've read about it, it strikes me as a locale that I don't really frequent very often. Therefore, of course, I'm intrigued to see Evelyn Berde's new exhibit at The West End Museum.

On September 1st, the West End Museum will premier a new art show featuring works of Boston artist Evelyn Berde. "Leaving the River" is a multimedia art installation which explores the impact the government-ordered condemnation and destruction of Boston's thriving West End neighborhood in the late 1950's and early 1960's had on its residents, including Berde's family, and, ultimately on the artist's life and artistic development.

Leaving The River

About Loss and Healing

6:30 pm - 9:30 pm

The West End Museum
