I need a new mattress.

I spent the better part of this morning reading reviews about memory foam mattresses and I'm probably more perplexed than I was before.  So, I decided that I would crowdsource some reviews/suggestions from you guys.  I trust you more than the reviews on or  Here's what I know so far:

I have 2 friends with Tempurpedic beds.  One loves it and says it was the best money he's ever spent.  The other now keeps the tempurpedic in his guest room because his wife hates it, so they got a new one after they got married.  One friend has a bed from this company called and loves it.  I'm currently considering getting one of the Novaform brand ones from Costco.  They've got a great return policy, so if I end up hating it, I can always return it.  Also, I have one of their memory foam pillows and it's worked out pretty well for the last few years.

  1. Anonymous Said,

Had a tempurpedic for 8 years. Loved it. Moved it to a second home in NH and got a (much less pricey) Nova whatever from costco. At first I wasnt sure if I liked it, but now feels the same as the tempurpedic except that it is a lot thicker than the temperpedic. I think memory foam is memory foam. I had tried to get information on foam density, but it seems to be a secret. Costco is great for returns, but be warned- once you pop open the box, it grows- a lot! And will never be "boxable" again!

Love the Sleep Number bed. Don't like the memory foam. Can't roll over easily in it.
If you go with Sleep Number it's super easy to move. Just deflate the bed. Much easier than a standard queen/king mattress and box spring.
Also if you have a significant other she/he can have a firm or soft side to suit individual tastes.

  3. Lauren Said,

I've had a Tempurpedic for about 3 years and I really like it. The only reason I can think of that some people might not like it is that it retains heat, which is nice in the winter but can be a little hot in the summer. It's been really good for my back. I used to not like sleeping on my back at all but it's very comfy on the Tempurpedic.

  4. Anonymous Said,

Let me start off by saying I do not have one, but was looking to get one. Then I read that the memory foam mattresses make you hot. It seems they retain the heat from your body and make you feel like you're cooking. I'm always moving around the bed looking for a cold spot, so I'm sure these aren't for me.
