When I quit my job to work on a couple of startup companies, I had to give up a bunch of luxuries.  One of those was wine ... my favorite type of which is chateaunef-du-pape.  So, I'm kind of excited about this chateaunef-du-pape dinner with Harry Karis that is coming up in about a week at Aura - 1/20.  Oh, and I'm also sad because I can't go. 

Aura Chef Rachel Klein pays homage to the Châteauneuf-du-Pape region and visiting author, Harry Karis and his book, The Châteauneuf-du-Pape Wine Book, with a multi-course menu featuring accompanying wines from the area (menu below).

Along with the cuisine, the highlight of the event will be a discussion with author Harry Karis. A self-described “late-bloomer”, Mr. Karis was fortunate to begin drinking more exclusive and rare wines in his late 30s. He ultimately became focused on the quality Southern Rhone wines, especially Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

I've had both of the ones being served with the second course, they're both excellent.  I think my all time favorite though is one from Chateau de Beaucastel.  That one is amazing.
