Bethenny Frankel Coming to Boston - 2/3

1/29/2010 01:09:00 AM 0 Responses
This is for those of you that watch that Real Housewives series.  I will admit, I actually watched the NYC one, although I heard the Jersey one or maybe the Atlanta one was the most entertaining.  For the most part, I watched it for the same reason I watch Teen Cribs.  I want to know what the parents/husbands/whoever makes the money does for a living that allow them to afford such lavish lifestyles.

Well for those of you that did watch the Real Housewives of NYC, and would like a chance to see Bethenny Frankel - she's coming to town next week on 2/3.

Bethenny will hand out free sandwiches featuring her exclusive recipes to consumers to celebrate the national launch of new Pepperidge Farm® Deli Flats™ thin rolls. She will be available to discuss the recipes, her new book, The Skinnygirl Dish: Easy Recipes for Your Naturally Thin Life, and her hit television show, Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New York City.

Noon on Wednesday, February 3rd

The Shops at Prudential Center’s Bridge Court (near Express), Boston.

Was there two seasons of the NYC version or just one?  I remember reading afterwards that Alex lost her job at Victoria Secret and the count ended up divorcing the countess.  Or at least I think that's what happened.  Can't really remember.

PS.  Still furious about the oysters (here).

Island Creek Oyster & Pig MiniFest - 1/31

1/29/2010 12:55:00 AM 2 Responses
AGHHHHHhghghghghghhg.  So, I'm heading to Austin this weekend for a bachelor party and what do I see in my inbox?  All you can eat Island Creek oysters for $22 this Sunday at Sel de la Terre.  AGHGHGHGhghghhhhhhhh.

Oysters are usually about two bucks each right?  It's been a while since I've had any.  That's 11 oysters if you do the math.  I can eat WAY more than 11.

Sunday, January 31 from 7-10pm - All you can eat oysters, shucked live by our friends from Island Creek, and passed "pig" appetizers in our downstairs bar. $22 per person.

I am not a happy camper right now.  That is all.

Note:  It looks like this event is going on at the Back Bay location.

Justin Timberlake Coming to Boston

1/27/2010 12:09:00 AM 0 Responses
So last week it was announced that Anne Hathaway won the Hasty Pudding Award (here), this week the male counterpart was announced and it's none other than Justin Timberlake.  Folks were pretty bummed when it was announced that JT was joining the cast of The Accidental Billionaire but would not be coming to Boston to film (here).  Well, looks like karma is bringing him here anyway.  Karma, or the Harvard students at the Hasty Pudding ... one of the two.

Justin Timberlake will soon have a new piece of hardware for his trophy case -- a pudding pot.  The Grammy and Emmy award winner was named Tuesday as Harvard's Hasty Pudding Man of the Year.  Timberlake will receive the award at a roast scheduled for Feb. 5.

I'm a fan of his SNL skits.  If you have not seen Dick in a Box or Mother Lover.  Crawl out from under your rock and get on hulu.com right now.  In the meantime, here's another SNL skit he was in that I thought was hilarious.

Go Watch Edge of Darkness

1/27/2010 12:02:00 AM 0 Responses
I scored tickets to an advanced screening of Edge of Darkness last night and I quite enjoyed it.  I disagree with that review that I posted earlier from Variety (here).  But then again, I'm not a movie critic.  As long as the movie is fairly entertaining, I usually enjoy it.

My favorite part was just the sheer amount of "Boston" that you get to see in the movie because a lot of it is either spent walking around outside or driving around in the Boston vicinity.  Great shots of Boston Harbor, South Station, The Public Garden .... and it goes on and on.

Over the last few months I've watched several of our beloved Made-In-Boston movies:  The Surrogates, Bride Wars, The Proposal, Boondock Saints (yes, I just now saw it).  Out of all of them, I think Edge of Darkness is probably in 2nd place.  The Departed gets first place.  And I can't bring myself to watch Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, so until Shutter Island or Grown ups comes out.  Edge of Darkness is going to be up there on my list of fave Boston movies.

Oh and PS.  Robert De Niro is a great actor, but Ray Winstone did a pretty great job in the movie.  I don't want to say I'm glad De Niro quit, Winstone did a good job with the character (here).

OneDaySave.com - Latest Boston Deal Website

1/26/2010 01:07:00 AM 1 Response
There's been quite a bit of activity over the least year or so with the group deal websites.  You know, the sites like Groupon and BuyWithMe and what not - one of my friends is addicted to those sites.  I was just reading last week about how one of them secured some VC funding which leads me to believe that these sites (as a concept) have been doing decently well.  They're all in the business of saving us money, which is awesome, pretty much a win-win situation for us as the consumer.  The latest site to join the mix for those of us in the Boston area is OneDaySave.com

OneDaySave.com is a new consumer oriented website being launched by Q4 Marketing and Media Group to help savvy shoppers get great deals from the best restaurants, retail stores, entertainment, and even Online. Everyday you will find a new and exciting offer from a local advertiser in your area.

I checked it out and today's deal is a one hour massage at Gregory Beale Massage for $45.  Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.  The one and only time that I've gotten a massage in Boston was at the Sports Club LA a few years back after a really stressful week of work.  I think it cost me upwards of ~$100.  So $45 sounds like a bargain to me.

Stacie from The Hills at The Estate 1/27

1/26/2010 12:46:00 AM 0 Responses
I never watched The Hills, but I know there's a handful of 'famous' folks that have come out of it right?  Lauren Conrad, Brody Jenner, and then there's that current 'scandal' going on right now with Heidi Montag and her plastic surgery.  I don't watch the shows, but I do hear bits and pieces from Perez.

Well, Stacie the Bartender (from The Hills) is going to be in town tomorrow at The Estate if any of you are interested in checking the event out.

According to the site, you can get complimentary admission if you have a white bracelet, but it's unclear to me how you go about attaining said bracelet.  Maybe if you rsvp to the email they provided?

Edge of Darkness Reviewed

1/25/2010 12:02:00 AM 0 Responses

There was a review of Edge of Darkness (here) this weekend in Variety, it was not great. Don't get me wrong, I'm still going to see it - I hardly ever let movie reviews affect my actual decision to see a movie. But I was reading through the review yesterday and figured you guys might want to read it as well.

The backstory might be the most interesting part of "Edge of Darkness," and no, that doesn't refer to star Mel Gibson's somewhat checkered history. "Casino Royale" and "Mask of Zorro" helmsman Martin Campbell remakes a BAFTA award-bejeweled six-hour BBC miniseries he directed 25 years ago. Yet as with the recent "State of Play," the miniseries-to-movie transfor standing, relatively limited action should also dampen box office prospects.

Ouch.  I don't mind limited action, as long as the movie is well done.  I did after all see Extraordinary Measures a couple weeks ago (when's the last time you saw a PG move?) and promised neither good action nor good acting.

The Pregnancy Pact Movie

1/25/2010 12:02:00 AM 1 Response
The Pregnancy Pact movie was on tv last night.  I didn't watch it, I was out on the porch with a buddy smoking a cigar and drinking some scotch while his wife watched it inside.  She said it was like watching a train wreck.  You just couldn't look away.  You remember the whole Gloucester pregnant teen issue from about a year and a half ago right (here)?

Inspired by a true story, the film explores the costs of teen pregnancy with a story of a fictional "pregnancy pact" set against the backdrop of actual news reports about teen pregnancy from June 2008. Sidney Bloom (Thora Birch), an on-line magazine journalist, returns to her hometown to investigate the sudden spike in teenage pregnancies at her old high school. Almost immediately, she comes up against Lorraine Dougan (Nancy Travis), the head of the local conservative values group and mother of Sara, a newly pregnant 15-year-old. Meanwhile, the school nurse (Camryn Manheim) tries to convince the school to provide contraception to students to address the pregnancy epidemic but is met with great opposition from the school and community. As the number of pregnant girls climbs to 18, a media firestorm erupts when Time Magazine reports that the rise in the number of pregnancies at the school is the result of a "pregnancy pact." As the mystery unfolds about whether or not "the pact" is real, Sidney soon realizes that all of the attention is disguising the much larger issues that are at the core of the story.

If you want to see it, I believe it's playing again tonight.  I will instead, spend my time watching Chuck, HIMYM and The Big Bang Theory.

Tour de Champagne - 1/30

1/22/2010 01:43:00 AM 0 Responses
Those of you that have been to my apartment, know that I always keep a bottle of champagne in the fridge.  You never know when there will be some impromptu reason to celebrate.  Someone's birthday that you forgot, someone's new promotion, the fact that it's Thursday .... just kidding.

My go to champagne for years was Cliquot, but if you drink as much of it as I do, you've noticed that that price has creeped up steadily over the years to a point where it's no longer worth it.  I'm in the market for a new default champagne, so something like the Tour de Champagne next week sounds perfect.

Saturday, Jan 30th, 2010
Charles Hotel, Harvard Square
One Bennett Street
Cambridge, MA 02138
phone: 617-661-5000

7:00-10:00PM: Main Event

* Taste Champagnes from over 20 Houses
* Taste culinary delights from Boston's Best Chefs
* Live Music
* Silent Auction benefitting The Greater Boston Food Bank

Fin de Soiree at Regatta Bar

*  More Champagne
*  Live Music by the Jeremy Carlstedt Jazz Band
*  A Special Cognac Tasting by Peyrot
*  Coffee Service by EVS Nespresso
*  Desserts by the Charles Hotel!

My go to "champagne" currently is one from Domaine Carneros.  It's roughly half the price of Cliquot and tastes just as good.  I put champagne in quotes because the stuff coming out of Domaine Carneros is technically sparkling wine since it's from California.  But the vineyard is owned by Taittinger, so you know they're not messing around.

Oh and it's Friday, so I'm going to stop at one post, and maybe pop open a bottle of something.  TGIF.

Win Access to a Ford Fiesta For 3 Months

1/21/2010 12:44:00 AM 1 Response
Ok, so the free $75 from Zipcar is pretty great already, but wait until you hear about this event.  Ford is looking for 100 folks to give free access to a Ford Fiesta for 3 months in exchange for being one of their 'agents.'  Free car access for 3 months?  I'd sign up if I wasn't out of town 90% of the time for work.  They just told me that I can tell you guys about it, so all I can say is SIGN UP!

With Chapter 1 of the Fiesta Movement, Ford gave (100) socially vibrant individuals a Ford Fiesta for 7 months to complete missions and create cool content online to share with their online following. Chapter 2 is going to be a bit different in that we are looking for (20) teams of two who will be competing in marketing challenges.

For three months, March-June, this next group of Agent teams will be implementing Ford’s marketing/advertising campaign. Ford will provide the media channels (think billboards, pop-up retail space, graffiti wall, etc) and connect the Agents with local creative talent to bring their ideas to life but the creative direction/freedom for how Ford should be marketing the product features of the Fiesta is entirely up to the Agents.

In return for their efforts, teams will be provided with a Fiesta (gas and insurance) as well as technology/design tools to assist with the design process for each challenge…pretty sweet deal!

Ideal candidates have an entrepreneurial spirit, creative vision, are well connected within their city and have a passion for being a part of the Fiesta Movement. The time commitment for Chapter 2 will range anywhere from 5-25 hours a week so teams need to have a flexible schedule and the time to commit to the program.

Trailer: The Company Men

1/20/2010 12:44:00 AM 0 Responses
So the first of the two Ben Affleck movies that were filmed in Boston last year just had it's trailer released last week.  I'm talking of course about The Company Men.  We all followed that one pretty closely as it filmed from around April through the beginning of June in the area (here).

If you click on the link above and look through my archived posts, you'll see pics of the football game that Ben Affleck plays in in his suit in Boston Common which made it into the trailer below.

I'm looking forward to this movie, as I am Mel Gibson's Edge of Darkness that comes out soon.  And it's about time.  Of course this is just my opinion, but after suffering through Bride Wars and The Proposal, I'd like to see a good Boston movie.  The Surrogates was decent, and I just can't bring myself to rent Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, so I'm going to have to bank on these movies.  Oh, and Scorsese's Shutter Island when that comes out.

James Taylor Help for Haiti Concert - 1/23

1/20/2010 12:25:00 AM 0 Responses
This must have been a last minute thing.  Tickets go on sale this morning at 9am and the concert is this upcoming Saturday.  I'm glad that Bloggery Reader Kaitlin sent this over to me, otherwise I probably would have missed it.

Tickets to singer and songwriter James Taylor's just-announced benefit concert for Haiti sold out in 90 minutes this morning, raising $150,000 for Partners in Health (pih.org), which Taylor and his wife, Kim, then matched, making the total amount raised so far to benefit the people of Haiti: $300,000.

Upon hearing news of the sold out concert, Mr. Taylor volunteered to donate his services for a second show on Saturday, January 23 at 8pm.

From what I was told, for the amount of tickets sold, Taylor and his wife, Kim, will make a matching donation.  That's pretty generous of them!

Blake Lively Talks The Town in Esquire

1/19/2010 12:05:00 AM 0 Responses
I just read through my latest issue of Esquire and they had a fairly lengthy interview of Blake Lively where she spends a good amount of time talking about The Town (here) which you all may remember filmed in Charlestown (and other parts of Boston) last year.  And for those of you that are Gossip Girl fans, she talks a bit about that as well.  Here are a couple of excerpts about The Town:

The way I dress as Serena is pretty much the way I dress as me. I'm living in New York City, shooting in New York City," she says. "I'm in a comfort zone." The Town jerked her out of that, and not only because she plays a poor woman living a dumpish life. To accommodate the shooting schedule last fall, she took the Amtrak from Penn Station up to Boston on the weekends.

Anne Hathaway = 2010 Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year

1/18/2010 12:05:00 AM 0 Responses
You may be asking yourself, "BTB, you're just looking for an excuse to post a picture of Anne Hathaway right?"  Well, my answer to you would be "Yes, absolutely."  Whereas, I do have to admit Bride Wars was an awful movie, Anne Hathaway is still awesome.  And her winning the Hasty Pudding award means she's going to be coming back to Boston and collect it.

Hathaway, who starred in 'The Devil Wears Prada' and 'Becoming Jane,' will lead a parade, in her honor through the streets of Cambridge. Following the parade, the 27-year-old actress and the club's drag queens will partake in the traditional celebrity roast at Hasty Pudding Theatricals at Harvard University.

Celebrations for Ms. Hathaway will take place on January 28, 2010 and will include the Woman of the Year Parade down Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge at 2:30 PM, followed by a Roast in her honor at the New College Theater (12 Holyoke Street) at 3 PM.

The whole 'having a day job' thing really gets in the way of being able to brave the cold, go to Harvard Square in the middle of the afternoon, and stand there hoping to catch a glimpse of her.

31st Pan-Massachusetts Challenge Registration - 1/19

1/18/2010 12:04:00 AM 0 Responses
I'm going to let you guys in on a secret.  Well sort of a secret, only my closest friends and/or family know this about me.  I never learned how to ride a bike when I was a kid.  Therefore, I'm pretty much out for this event, but a few of my friends are avid bikers.  So this ones for you guys, Jon and Dan!

Register to ride in the 31st annual Pan-Massachusetts Challenge (PMC) starting on Tuesday, Jan. 19. Open to 5,500 cyclists, the PMC will be held on Aug 7 and 8, 2010. This year’s goal is to raise $31 million for the Jimmy Fund, which supports cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Over the past 30 years, the PMC has raised $270 million for the world-renowned cancer center.

Riders can register for one of ten routes, including four one-day and seven two-day treks which range from 47 to 190 miles. A pioneer of the athletic fundraising event industry, the PMC raises and contributes more money to charity than any other “a-thon” in the US. It has a national reputation for being a beautiful and well-supported ride.

Someone remind me a few days before Aug 7 and I'll hop on a stationary bike and try to bike 47+ miles in spirit along with you guys.  I will not, however, shave my legs.

Jersey Shore Party @ Bleacher Bar - 1/15

1/15/2010 01:21:00 AM 2 Responses
Someone needs to explain to me the fascination with Jersey Shore.  I haven't seen it yet, but the other day a few of my friends were over and they were trying to see if they could find it On Demand on my tv because apparently the show is a train wreck and highly entertaining.  Well for those of you that are fans of the show and are looking for a place to rock all your Ed Hardy or Affliction or Tap Out gear - Bleacher Bar is having a Jersey Shore Party tonight!

When I think of Jersey, I think Korean food in Fort Lee.  That's about all I like about that state.

Dorchester Milton Restaurant Week Starts 1/17

1/15/2010 01:14:00 AM 0 Responses

I've been to Milton once (a friend lived there) and Dorchester maybe three times (the Vietnamese food is awesome there).  But, it looks like I may have one more reason to head over there.  I've been meaning to go try out the Ashmont Grill and Restaurant Week may be just the excuse to make it down there.

If your wallet and you bank balance are a little depleted after the holidays, just wait for Dorchester-Milton Restaurant Week. So it's not quite as big as Boston Restaurant Week but Dorchester and Milton have come a long way in terms of dining options and from January 17th through January 31st you can see all they have to offer for a fraction of the price. Eight participating restaurants, including 224, 88 Wharf, Abby Park, Ashmont Grill, Blarney Stone, dbar, Ledge and Tavolo, will be offering three-course show off menus for $30.10. The menus, which won't be available on Friday or Saturday nights, will be offered in addition to their regular fare.

Methinks it's time to go on Yelp and look up some of these other restaurants to see if there's more than one that I should hit up while restaurant week is going on.

Renovated Champions Bar Looks Kinda Awesome

1/14/2010 12:14:00 AM 0 Responses
I haven't been there myself yet, but my buddy Eugene has frequented the recently renovated Champions Bar a number of times to catch a few sports games.  I have to admit, I'm not much of a sports watcher.  It just takes more hours than I usually have at any given point.  But this could be fun place to hang out with friends.

Marriott International is launch[ed] the re-invention of its popular Champions restaurant brand at the Boston Marriott Copley Place this [past] summer.  The sleek, modern restaurant features the largest HD projection screen in the area (at 12 x 24 feet), over 40 flat panel televisions and a technologically advanced sound system for a superior viewing experience.  Together with an all-American grill menu, 36 beers on tap, and numerous cocktail offerings, Champions promises to become one of Boston’s newest entertainment and dining destinations.

I will admit, the last time I was in NYC visiting friends, we went to a sports bar to watch football and the ability to watch every single game simultaneously was pretty awesome.  My poor tv doesn't even have picture in picture so I'm relegated to one game at a time.  From those pics above, I think that maybe I should start hitting up Champions more often than not to watch ye old football.

Tremont647 4th Annual Tapas Challenge

1/14/2010 12:02:00 AM 0 Responses
Saw this one on a blurb from Thrillist.  You know how I love food, and one of my favorite places to get food would have to be the South End.  I miss the days of living about The Garden of Eden (now Stephanie's).  It was so easy to walk down the street and get just about anything I wanted.

The 4th Annual Tremont 647 Tapas Challenge is coming up next week.

Join chefs David Punch of 10 Tables, and Will Gilson of Garden on the Cellar as they take on reigning champion (and Tremont 647 chef/owner) Andy Husbands in the 4th annual Tapas Challenge. Each guest will have an opportunity to taste one dish from each chef in each of 3 categories: vegetarian, shrimp, and pork. Guests will vote based on taste, appearance and creativity, and at the end of the evening, will crown one chef the victor.

It's recommended that you make a reservation if you want to attend.

Imagine me saying this in my best Ron Burgundy impersonation, "I love scotch. Scotchy, scotch, scotch. Dewar's Discovery will be in Boston from 1/28/2010 to 2/5/2010.

I just went to Max Brenner for the first time back in August. I was in Philadelphia and after a cheese steak at Pat's and then a cheese steak at Geno's, my friends and I proceeded to head to Max Brenner for dessert. Yes, I'm a pig. Well it looks like Max Brenner will be coming to us soon.

Chocolate-centric cafe Max Brenner has picked a spot for its first Boston location, spokesperson Danielle Sarna tells Grub Street. The cafe will open in a 5,900 square foot space at 745 Boylston Street in Back Bay. The Boston location will be Max Brenner's third U.S. location outside of New York, following a current outpost in Philadelphia and a forthcoming one in Las Vegas.

If I were to describe Max Brenner, I'd say it was a cross between Finale and Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory.  I remember swirling vats of chocolate being carried throughout the restaurant via large pipes in the ceiling that you could see.  I can't remember what I ate, but I do remember my friend had 'chocolate soup'

Louis Boston Closing Soon

1/11/2010 02:29:00 AM 0 Responses
Well, this is a year and half in the making, but it's finally happening - Louis Boston is leaving Newbury Street (here). An article in the Globe from last week has details on the relocation plans for the new location.

Shoppers began bidding farewell yesterday to Back Bay fashionista LouisBoston, which is abandoning its historic Newbury Street building in a little more than a week and opening in a temporary space by the waterfront at the Fan Pier on Feb. 15.

LouisBoston’s lease at the Back Bay marquee property, home to the New England Museum of Natural History until the late 1940s, expires at the end of January. Owner Debi Greenberg said she wanted to open in February in the temporary spot - about 9,500 square feet - on the first floor of the office building at ONE Marina Park Drive to get shoppers accustomed to visiting the neighborhood. The new 20,000-square-foot location - about half the size of the Back Bay property - is currently under construction and expected to open in April at the water’s edge, diagonally across from the Institute of Contemporary Art.

I've been in Louis Boston a total of once.  I went to the restaurant once too when it was named Boston Public.  But overall the clothing there is a little (I mean a lot) beyond my limit.

PostSecret Coming to UMass Amherst - 2/11

1/11/2010 02:15:00 AM 0 Responses
Sadly, this event is only open to UMass students, and I'm not a UMass student.  But I suppose if you know anyone there that doesn't want to go, they could get a ticket for you.  I read PostSecret pretty much every Sunday.  I'm sure this event will be pretty awesome.

Come hear Frank Warren, Founder of PostSecret, share the inspiring and funny stories behind the 500,000 secrets he has received on postcards.  See secrets that were banned from the books by the publisher.  Meet Frank afterward during the book signing. Books will be available for purchase including the #1 New York Times Best Seller, "PostSecret Confessions on Life Death and God".

This event is free and open to UMass students only. Tickets will be available to the public if any remain after they are distributed to students.

I've leafed through several of the PostSecret books while at the bookstore (here) and if my coffee table wasn't already full of books and magazines, I'd probably have one of them on there.

Owl CIty Tix On Sale Today!

1/08/2010 04:39:00 AM 3 Responses
The following is a conversation that took place between me and my sister the other day.

Me: Hey, want to see Owl City when they come to town?
My Sister: Who's Owl City?
Me: You know, the guy that sings that firefly song.
My Sister: Oh my god, I hate that song. It's so annoying.
Me: A simple 'no thank you' would have sufficed.

Owl City is coming to town at the House of Blues on Friday, Apr 23, 2010 and tickets go on sale today at 10am EST.

From a lot of the conversations I've had with folks, Owl City is a pretty love/hate performer.  Needless to say, I'm gonna goto the show with someone other than my sister.

Stuff Bodies By Boston Party - 1/12

1/08/2010 04:35:00 AM 0 Responses
I'd have to fast for about 6 months (at the very least) before I could even attempt to be a contender in the Stuff magazine Bodies competition.  It looks like the winners have been chosen and to celebrate, the folks at Stuff are holding a party at Cafeteria on Newbury Street on 1/12.

Don't miss our Body Issue Party!
Date: Tuesday, January 12, 2010
Location: Cafeteria
Time: 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Complimentary MGD64 will be served.

Ok, so I'm not a fan of MGD64.  If I want to save on calories, I'll drink a vodka soda.  But, free is free.  Soooooo, I suppose I can make an exception for an evening.

Boyce and Melinda's Investment Strategies for the Post-Money World!

1/07/2010 01:11:00 AM 0 Responses

As you all know, I'm always looking for new stuff to do in Boston. Lately, my Boston hobby has been to visit as many bars as humanly possible in search of the best Old Fashioned (so far Silvertone is winning). But it's just about time to expand my horizons, I'm sure my liver needs a break. Which brings me to a new show that's debuting on 1/14: Boyce and Melinda's Investment Strategies for the Post-Money World!

It’s the year 2020 and President Palin’s faith-based economy has collapsed. Where can you turn? Boyce and Melinda's Investment Strategies for the Post-Money World! , the hilarious musical-comedy and financial seminar, opens Thursday, January 14 at the Wimberly Theatre in Boston’s Calderwood Pavilion. A hysterical look at what our financial future may hold with the kind of advice you just can't get on CNBC, the show is an original work from Gip Hoppe.

The husband and wife team of Boyce and Melinda Peterson are delighted to lead twenty-one of these upcoming financial seminars from January 14 – 31 at the Wimberly Theatre. But hold on to your seats. It seems Boyce and Melinda became financial advisors only after their musical careers failed. The backdrop of the seminar is a series of hilarious satirical songs spoofing country music, Metallica, Celine Dion, Bruce Springsteen and more.

I'm going to try to check it out opening weekend, or send one of ye old media reps in case I can't go.

BuyWithMe Sel de la Terre Promo This Friday - 1/8

1/07/2010 12:53:00 AM 0 Responses

About a month ago, my friend Shane and I swung by the Sel De La Terre at the Mandarin Oriental for drinks and a few of their appetizers.  They had some sort of happy hour special going on for a few of their appetizers.  I can't remember the details, but I do remember that the food was pretty good and so were the drinks.  Which brings me to an upcoming BuyWithMe promotion that's going to be featured this upcoming Friday - 1/8.

I saw your post about Legal today, and thought you might be interested in our Friday promotion -- $25 for $50 to use towards anything at any Sel de la Terre location! Plus, it's one per guest -- so you can combine as [many] vouchers as there are people at your table. It's an awesome promotion, and one I thought you'd be excited about.

Up to 50% off at Sel de la Terre (assuming you can get it to work out to exact multiples of $50) sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Click (here) to visit BuyWithMe.  Don't forget the promo isn't going to show up until Friday.

Legal Sea Foods’ 60th birthday - 1/20

1/06/2010 12:02:00 AM 0 Responses
I've brought out of town visitors all over the place for chowder, and consensus is they usually like the chowder at Legal's the best. When my parents come to visit, at least one meal will be had at Legal's. I'm sure many of you folks are the same way. It's a Boston staple, in my opinion. Well they're celebrating their 60th birthday later this month and apparently, we're all invited.

In honor of Legal Sea Foods’ 60th birthday and National Soup Month, President & CEO Roger Berkowitz has declared January 20th a new ‘Legal’ Holiday… Chowda Day! To celebrate, Legal Sea Foods will serve up their celebrated clam chowder for 60¢ a cup, with the purchase of any entrée.

Legal Sea Foods opened as a fish market at 237 Hampshire Street, Cambridge, in 1950 where their famous chowder was first served.

Enjoy your chowder at any Legal Sea Foods (excluding airport locations).

I like to hit up the Legal's near the Aquarium and then walk along the water afterwards until I make it to the North End. And then I get dessert. =)

Trailer: Edge of Darkness

1/05/2010 12:02:00 AM 0 Responses
Wow, it's already been over a year since Edge of Darkness was filmed in Boston (here). Seems like just yesterday that I was walking through the Common as they were filming it .. except it was a lot warmer.

Hmm, apparently the trailer was posted to youtube back in October. And I'm just now seeing it? How strange. Well, what do you think? I think it's going to be a pretty exciting movie to watch.

1000 Words: The Afflecks

I haven't seen a picture of the whole Affleck family together in a while, and I know their youngest daughter Serphina is missing from this one, but I saw the pic, thought it was cute, and thought you might think so as well.

Wow, Violet looks just like Jennifer Garner.

Boston Wine Festival 2010

1/04/2010 01:50:00 AM 0 Responses

Happy New Year everyone! Sorry for the sporadic posts these past couple of weeks, I've been trying to take a real vacation from everything. And then on top of that I managed to ring in the New Year with a nice case of food poisoning. Not the pretend 'hangover' food poisoning that people have been accusing me of, but the real thing - it's pretty miserable. But I'm back! And hoping that 2010 is going to be an awesome year. So if you didn't have enough to drink on New Years Eve, you'll be happy to know that the Boston Wine Festival starts this Friday 1/8.

There are so many great things to see/experience this year, which happens to be the 21st installment of this particular event. Chef Daniel Bruce and the Boston Harbor Hotel will be featuring a series of food & wine pairings and a bunch of very well known wineries will be in attendance: Opus One, Ravenswood, an evening of Bordeax's.

Sadly, the Chataneuf du Pape event is sold out already, that's my favorite wine. They've got events going on all the way through April so you should be able to find something that you like.
