The Ego & The Oracle

10/01/2009 12:37:00 AM
I moved to Boston in 2000. That's a fairly long time ago. And after all those years, I've found myself in a little bit of a social rut. Not that I'm complaining, I love my friends (except Dan Dan, him I hate). But sometimes, there's that desire to try something new. A press release just popped into my email that seems to fill that job description: A show called "The Ego & The Oracle"

Straddling the line between theatre, comedy and concert, "The Ego & The Oracle" invites audience members to ask questions, and the answer is interpreted after "un-pop" band Jim's Big Ego performs a randomly chosen song from their repertoire like a Ouija Board plugged into an iPod Shuffle. Time after time and tune after tune, "Oracle" and "Ego" reveal their responses with often uncanny results.

While centered on prognostication, every performance is unpredictable. Questions from the audience are randomly pulled out of a box, and "The Oracle" works through a carnival-like Wheel of Songs with dozens of titles recorded by Jim's Big Ego.

Upcoming Shows:
Oct 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
6:30pm doors / 7pm show
Back Room at The Burren Davis Square, Somerville
All Ages, but best suited for mature audiences
$15

Curious? Me too. The first show is tonight! And if this doesn't work, it's probably time to find a place to go skydiving.

  2. Erica Said,

I love it. There's such a need for new things to do in Boston rather than sitting at bars boozing - or not. Thanks for the post!
