I first blogged about David Ortiz's investment and transformation of Metro 9 into "Big Papi's" right before July 4th (here). Well the wait is over, the restaurant opens TODAY!
Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz, known to baseball fans everywhere as “Big Papi”, will open his first restaurant, Big Papi’s Grille, in Framingham, Mass. The upscale casual restaurant is designed to appeal to a wide audience, with featured menu items that include high quality steaks, Kobe beef burgers, hearty pasta dishes and much more.
David Ortiz is a financial partner in the restaurant, owned by Classic Restaurant Concepts. The restaurant, currently being operated as the Metro 9 Steak House, will remain open through July 21. Big Papi’s Grille will be closed on July 23 for a private party hosted by David Ortiz before opening to the public on July 24.
See below for a video interview of Big Papi about the restaurant.
Sadly, I'm headed to NYC for the weekend this afternoon, so I won't be able to swing by opening night. Steaks and Kobe burgers though sound pretty good. Good thing I'm going to be swinging by Peter Lugers and Minetta Tavern this weekend - burgers and steaks will be had.

Callie Durbrow Said,
This sounds like a cool place and I'm sure it will get lots of customers just because of it's famous owner. Looking forward to getting out there and checking it out sometime!
