South End Condo Auction - 6/28

6/05/2009 12:02:00 AM
Who's in the market for a new home? There's an auction coming up later this month for 35 lofts in the South End in a building called "The 1850". I pulled up the development site to look for the address and it's actually pretty far south. In my opinion, the South End only extends as far as Washington Street (and maybe a little into Harrison). This development looks like it's around the corner from Albany Street - a few blocks away from Boston Medical Center.

Bids for the units, located in a former piano factory and general warehouse, will start at $175,000 with some units being sold for as much as 55 percent below the original asking price. The auction will be held at 1 p.m. June 28th at The Westin Boston Waterfront hotel.

The project was completed in 2008. Over the past 18 months, 25 units have sold, said Sue Hawkes, president of Velocity Marketing Services. The units were originally marketed for sale for between $300,000 to $700,000.

Half off? Sounds like a good deal. Especially for any doctors or medical staff that work at Boston Medical Center. You're only a few blocks away from work.
