Be in "The Fighter" 7/14-7/16

6/30/2009 12:48:00 AM 1 Response
So I post quite a bit about casting calls, this one is sort of like a casting call but even better. This is for folks that want to be a spectator in the upcoming movie "The Fighter" which features Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale.

Wanted to give you a heads up that the producers are allowing to invite people to Be In The Movie as spectators during the big fight scenes. No headshots, auditions, stress required. This is about coming out, having fun, and giving people an opportunity most never get.

These are not paid extra positions but it is a great way to experience a day on a real movie set with all the stars and see the industry from the inside out.
Plus its all FREE! Anyone 16+ can be our guests on a movie set for a day and receive free food, entertainment and eligibility to win prizes throughout the day's activities.

The filming will be taking place in Lowell, MA on July 14, 15, 16. Participants choose which day to attend and do not need to come to all three days (although, given how fun it is many may come more than one day)

I'm going to be relatively free those days so I'm thinking about doing it myself. How cool would it be to be in a the movie? I'd totally buy multiple copies of the dvd and send it to my friends and tell them exactly when the 1.5 seconds occur that you can see my face as the camera pans across.

Review: House of Blues Gospel Brunch

6/29/2009 12:34:00 AM 1 Response
So I went to the House of Blues yesterday for their Gospel Brunch (here). It was pretty delicious! As the billboard advertised, it was a southern style brunch buffet with almost all my favorites: fried chicken (which I ate on waffles), cheese grits, hash browns, roast beef, bread pudding ... the list goes on.

Here's how it went for those that are interested. I showed up a few minutes before 11:30am (when doors open) and stood in line. Once they open the doors, they show people to their tables (assigned seats) and you're put at a long table that seats 12. There's three stations for food: a carving station, the main buffet station, and a dessert station. I'll spare you all the exhaustive list of food that was there, I think you can find the menu online, but it was all quite tasty.

After about an hour of eating, the gospel singers came out and performed for about 45 minutes to an hour. I've never heard gospel music live before - only seen it on tv or in movies - it was pretty awesome.

According to the site, there's at least one more Gospel Brunch left this season (on 7/5). I highly recommend you check it out.

PS. When I said they had almost all of my favorites, they were missing one thing: fried okra.

KangaROOS Store on Newbury Street

6/29/2009 12:26:00 AM 1 Response
It seems like every time I walk down Newbury Street these days, another store has closed. But today was different, I was and saw something new that had opened: A KangaROOS Store!

Now, KangaROOS are near and dear to me because they are the first pair of shoes that I can actually remember wearing. They were dark blue and they had two velco straps, because I hadn't learned how to tie my shoes yet. They also gave me the ability to jump really high - or at least that's what I told myself.

There you have it. 292 Newbury Street. In talking to the sales girl, she said they just opened this past Friday and if I didn't hear wrong - it's also the first KangaROOS store in the U.S.

Mosquito "Explosion" Expected Due to the Rain

6/25/2009 12:23:00 AM 1 Response
Great ... I just got eaten alive this past weekend by mosquitoes while I was traveling for work and I come back to rain, fairly brisk weather, and a news article that says there's going to be a mosquito "explosion" this weekend.

John Smith of the Norfolk County Mosquito Control Project says the wet, cool weather of late has given the mosquitos time to build up their numbers. To make matters worse, the recent coastal storm and high tides have inundated salt marshes on east-facing coastlines, creating even more habitat for the voracious salt-water species.

"This species is nasty, and travels miles to find a blood meal. And they're just as active during the day as night," Smith said.

Looks like my first stop tomorrow will be CVS for some bug spray. It's been quite some time since I've had to contend with bug bites, and the itch is quite irritating. Guess it's time to switch from my usual John Varvatos cologne to eau de citronella for the time being.

It is funny though, when I read that last line about being active during the day and traveling miles for blood, I couldn't help but think "At least it wasn't an article about zombies."

Hermione Going to Columbia?

6/25/2009 12:11:00 AM 0 Responses
Ok, this is what I get for getting some of my news (not all, just some) from celebrity gossip sites. I'm guessing this has still to be verified by a real source, but now the gossip sites are saying that Emma Watson is going to be Columbia University rather than Brown like I had previously blogged about last month (here).

Here's what Perez had to say:

With the Harry Potter film franchise finally coming to a close, Emma can now start looking to her future and she has decided to go the academic route for awhile. The actress applied and received acceptance from several Ivy League schools, including Yale, Brown, and Harvard, but in the end she choose the hustle and bustle of NYC.

Emma reportedly plans to attend Columbia University in the fall. In an attempt to gain some anonymity, Emma changed her name while being included into the student directory, filing under "Charlotte E Watson" instead of her given name "Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson".

Just wanted to get it out there in case someone stumbles across my older blog entry about her possibly going to Brown. I guess time will tell. Too bad she decided not to come to Harvard.

1000 Words - Tom Brady & Son

6/25/2009 12:01:00 AM 0 Responses
Hope everyone took their dad's out this past weekend for Father's Day. I'd been going back and forth for the last week about whether or not I really had any desire to post about Gisele being pregnant settled on "no" (although I probably missed out on a lot of internet traffic from curious googlers)

Instead, I found this pic of Tom and his son Jack hanging out on Father's Day and would much rather post this instead.

PS. Gisele is supposedly pregnant with Tom's second kid. If you google it, I'm sure someone will have all the facts for you.

New DunkinRun Website & App

6/24/2009 12:27:00 AM 0 Responses
Dunkin Donuts has released a new website and iphone app called DunkinRun.

The Dunkin' Run is the easiest way to grab that delicious pick-me-up for you and your friends. Here's how it works:

INVITE: Start a run at from your computer, mobile device, or our iPhone application . You are now "the runner", and pick which friends you'd like to invite by providing their email or mobile phone number (no spaces or dashes e.g. 1234567890).

ORDER: Select what you want from the menu, and we'll contact your friends and tell them to do the same.

RUN: Go get the goods. We'll compile all orders for you, and you can print it out or have it sent to your mobile device (if you print it, just hand the print out to the Dunkin' crew member at the shop and they'll take it from there).

ENJOY! Bring the goodies back, and enjoy the deliciousness, along with the hero worship from your friends. It's that Easy. Simply Invite, Order, Run, and Enjoy!

Hmm. Good idea but not my cup of tea - or coffee in this case. First off, it's been several years since I've had coworkers so I have no one to get stuff for. Second, when I did have coworkers, we used to use coffee runs as an excuse to get out of our cubicles for a few minutes. Can't do that if I have someone else fetching my coffee for me.

Maine Lobstermen Still Hurting

6/24/2009 12:18:00 AM 0 Responses
Lobster prices are higher than they were six months ago (here) but they're still not good, according to an article I read last night. As a result, Lobstermen are going direct to us rather than selling to wholesalers.

Prices for lobster plunged last year to levels not seen in 20 years, leading Turner and a growing number of other lobstermen to sell from the backs of pickup trucks, from garages, and even on Craigslist. By going directly to consumers, lobstermen say they can make roughly $1 more per pound than what they get from lobster dealers.

In the past couple of weeks, lobstermen were selling one-pound lobsters for about $4.25 to $5.25 a pound, roughly $1 a pound more than they could get from lobster dealers. At the same time, Portland-area seafood shops and supermarkets were selling one-pounders for about $4.99 to $6.99 a pound.

Any lobstermen out there want to chime in on what's happening? Is it the recession that's causing this? I'm ready to do my part - who wants to drive to Maine and pick up some lobsters and stimulate the economy?

Awwww, I wish I knew he was in town. I would have tried to go meet him. According to the Herald, Chuck Liddell (of UFC fame) was in town and hanging out at The Place. Here he is in a pic with one of the Dollhouse DJ's.

Anyone know why he was in town? I just finished reading his book "My Fighting Life" and he did mention that one of his favorite cities is Boston (where Dana White spent some time). Just curious.

Skateboard Art Challenge

6/23/2009 12:01:00 AM 1 Response
There's a reason why big fat dudes usually don't ride on skateboards. It's because they tend to fall off and sprain an ankle five minutes after they try to get on the darned thing. Or at least that was my experience trying to skateboard my freshman year. Here's something that might be a little safer - geared towards the artists out there.

Skateboard Art Challenge

At the Duxbury Art Association we support the artist in everyone and believe that art is everywhere...even under a skateboard.

Enter your original, (made by you with your own design), artwork in the Duxbury Art Association's first ever Skateboard Art Show.

Artwork may be submitted in 2 ways:

1. On the deck of an actual skateboard*

2. On paper, board or canvas in the shape and size of a skateboard**

*Long boards by Edje skateboards can be purchased (without wheels or trucks) for a substantial discount
**Sample template can be found on the DAA website.

The contest ends on July 10th, so get cracking!

Oh, and the pic in this post is by Audrey Kawasaki. Hopefully none of you get in trouble for a little bit of cartoon boob. While typing up this entry, I remembered that she had one piece that was done on a skateboard and decided to look it up.

Aquarium Fashion Show & Beach Party - 6/25

6/23/2009 12:01:00 AM 0 Responses
I've been out of town for the last two weeks on business, so I haven't experienced the recent weather first hand, but according to that little weather thingy on my macbook - it has not been good. Has it really been raining for that long? If so, you're going to want to come out this Thursday 6/25 to the NE Aquarium for The Reef’s "Finally Summer Beach Party" and Live Blue Fashion Show.

For those of you that haven't been, The Reef is the outdoor bar/dining area outside of the Aquarium.

Hang 10 at The Reef and wax up for a totally tubular “Live Blue” fashion show and Finally Summer Beach Party. The Big Splash is Thursday June 25

Surf’s up at 5:30 p.m. with free appetizers until 6:30 p.m., and cool drinks, giveaways, and live music all night long. Enter raffles to win Reef flip flops, loaded goody bags, gift certificates and free tickets to the New England Aquarium. The “Live Blue” fashion show kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with Mix 98.5 spinning tunes, and Fashion Boston contributor and creator Lisa Pierpont serving as emcee.

I checked and as of right now, Thursday is supposed to be the first day of non-rain in a while. I'm coming back today from 95+ degree weather. 60's and rain is going to be unpleasant.

Tom Cruise Coming to Boston!

6/22/2009 02:09:00 AM 1 Response
What a long list of celebs that made movies in Boston so far: Mel Gibson, Bruce Willis, Sandra Bullock, Ryan Reynolds, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler. Ok I'll stop there with the old celebs. And here's the news on the new celeb that's on his way here: Tom Cruise.

A slew of screen idols are about to descend on Boston to shoot new movies, including, we're told, Tom Cruise. That's right, the world's most famous movie star is nearly certain to shoot his latest flick here starting in September.

Called "Wichita," the action comedy would be the biggest budget movie ever to film here, and Cruise and co-star Cameron Diaz could be hanging around the Hub for up to three months. The film, one of several high-profile projects Cruise has been considering, will be directed by James Mangold, whose credits include "Walk the Line" and "Girl, Interrupted."

Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz in Boston for three months. Sounds good!

Casting Call: Dogs for Shakespeare on the Common

6/19/2009 12:04:00 AM 1 Response
This casting call is just about as specific as the one for "The Fighter" where they only wanted Cambodian men that spoke Khmer. This one though, is for our four legged friends out there.

One very important part has not yet been fully cast. The Company is in search of some four-legged cast members –specifically greyhound dogs. One dog is needed each night, and will be required to walk across the stage on a leash, accompanied by an actor. Interested greyhounds should call (617) 426-0863 for more information.

Oh and if you're wondering which play they're doing this summer, it's going to be The Comedy of Errors.

The Comedy of Errors will be performed July 31—Aug. 16 outdoors at the Parkman Bandstand on Boston Common, in partnership with the City of Boston and Mayor Menino. The program, which has become a beloved civic institution, will draw an estimated 75,000 people over 15 performances. Performances take place Tuesday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 7 p.m., weather permitting. Press night will be Aug. 5 at 8 p.m.

If The Comedy of Errors wasn't one of the plays your highschool made you read, you can brush up before the show by reading the wikipedia entry (here) - which is what I'll be doing. We read mostly tragedies - that and A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Channel Cafe Friday Nights

6/19/2009 12:03:00 AM 1 Response
I think I've been to the Seaport District more times in the last month than I have in the past several years. I used to go either to grab some food at No Name or to pick up some sushi-grade fish at Sea-To-You. But now I've been going to grab dinner and drinks - Persephone and Drink to be exact.

Well, there's another reason to head there - a new hangout spot named Channel Cafe. I missed the announcement last week, but better late than never, right?

We’re very excited to introduce you to Channel CafĂ© - Boston’s best bohemian hidden gem. Please join us this and every Friday from 6-10pm for great cocktails, comfort food and a sexy lounge ambiance that can’t be beat! We hope to see you there.

There's such a concentration of great places in that area, you can definitely make an evening of it. I'm still trying to convince some folks to go grab dinner with me at Sportello one of these evenings. Then there's Drink, Persephone, Lucky's Lounge, and now Channel Cafe!

IMAX Coming to Danvers

6/18/2009 02:13:00 AM 2 Responses
Anyone else eagerly awaiting the release of the second Transformers movie? I used to watch that cartoon every day as a kid. That and having Megan Fox in the movie is a huge plus as well. Does anyone know if that twitter account is really hers? Cause I've been reading it religiously. But I digress.

What's better than Megan Fox .... I mean Transformers ... on the big screen? Well that would be Megan Fox (and Transformers) on IMAX.

In conjunction with the release of “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,’’ an Imax theater is being installed in the AMC cinema at Liberty Tree Mall in Danvers.

The theater in Danvers, which will open Wednesday, will feature a 56-foot-by-29-foot screen, a digital projection screen, and a new sound system, said Imax spokesman Jackson Meyers.

I hope they play Transformers at the NE Aquarium IMAX, that's the closest one to me. They had Batman there for a while, but I never got around to watching it there.

Filene's Basement May Come Back to Dtown Crossing

6/18/2009 02:03:00 AM 1 Response
What a soap opera. Have you guys been following this Filene's Basement debacle over the last several weeks? First they're bought, then they're not. Then Men's Wearhouse buys them. Then they back out. Now they've been bought by Syms in collaboration with the real estate companies that own the big gaping hole in Downtown Crossing that Filene's was supposed to go back into.

Syms offered $62.4 million for the beleaguered business in a venture with New York real estate firm Vornado Realty Trust and Gale International, the two firms that own the downtown Boston property where the Basement has operated for more than 100 years. That location has been closed since 2007 because of a stalled $700 million redevelopment project that has been unable to secure financing.

The current lease runs through 2024 and requires Gale and Vornado to pay Filene’s Basement $500,000 a month until the flagship can reopen again in the redeveloped site.
With the development on hold, it would likely take at least two years to reopen the Filene’s Basement store, meaning Gale and Vornado would have to pay an additional $12 million during that period, an obligation they erased by participating in the acquisition.

I was pretty curious when the purchase happened as to why a real estate firm would want to buy an ailing retailer. But now it all makes sense.

For those of you that watched Amy Poehler's new comedy "Parks & Recreation" doesn't it seem like the entire premise of that show could be applied to the Downtown Crossing pit?

Unfortunately, I hafta travel for work (and need my legs), otherwise I'd gladly get drunk and fall down the pit if it meant someone would try to turn it into a park rather than leave it a big gaping hole.

Eliza Dushku's Valediction

6/17/2009 12:01:00 AM 1 Response
I've received a handful of emails asking about this recently and realized I haven't once posted about it, so I guess better late than never right? Eliza Dushku was in town for the last couple of weeks filming a movie called "Valediction."

Filming took place in a handful of areas downtown - off the top of my head: Whiskey Park andPost Office Square. If you saw any yellow movie set signs with the letters "LIF" on them, that was her movie. Here's the latest on Ms. Dushku according to the Globe:

Dushku, who grew up in Watertown, has been in town shooting "Valediction," a psychological thriller in which she plays a temptress. (The target of her affection? A married man played by "Chronicles of Narnia" actor Ben Barnes.) "On paper, it's 'Fatal Attraction' and 'Black Widow,'" she said. "But when we shot it, Ben's character was more redeeming." Dushku is returning to LA today to begin work on season two of Joss Whedon's "Dollhouse," and to get cracking on a biopic of famed photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. Her company Boston Diva Productions is producing, and the actress's brother Nate is set to star. "We're working with the Mapplethorpe estate and Patti Smith is interested," said Dushku. (It'll be the first feature from "DiG!" director Ondi Timoner, whose most recent film "We Live in Public" bowled over the actress and her baller boyfriend.) Is Eliza intimidated to be producing? "I've been in this business now for 18 years, I've taken some notes," she said. "I can't settle for showing up and looking pretty." We may see her again soon: She just read for the part of a tough-talking Charlestown chick in "The Town."

That'll be cool if she ends up with a part in "The Town." That's Ben Affleck's new movie (here) that he's working on now - now that "The Company Men" has wrapped.

1000 Words - Buzz Aldrin & The Boston Pops

6/15/2009 12:39:00 AM 0 Responses
Former astronaut Buzz Aldrin was at Symphony Hall on 6/11 performing with the Boston Pops.

Fighter pilot, MIT doctor of science, and one of the first guys to walk on the moon, Buzz was narrating Gustav Holst's The Planets with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops.

For those of you that were wondering (probably just me), Buzz was class of '63 at MIT. There's actually a website of "notable" MIT alumi (here).

Village Smokehouse Wine Dinner - Tonight

6/15/2009 12:30:00 AM 1 Response
I'm currently in Texas for a business trip, so I've had BBQ on my mind for the last several days. For those of you that are in the same boat as me (but stuck in Boston) - you might want to swing by the Village Smokehouse in Lowell tonight for a BBQ wine dinner that they're hosting.

Texas-style BBQ and new world wine unite to spice up Lowell on June 15, 2009, at the Village Smokehouse in Lowell. This satisfying evening of food and wine will feature a fabulous Village Smokehouse buffet with expressive wine tastings from The Cono Sur Winery in Chile. Located at 98 Middle Street in Lowell, The Village Smokehouse’s Wine Dinner will take place on Monday, June 15, 2009 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30. Reservations are suggested and can be made by calling 978-441-2272.

The June 15 event will feature various wines samples over the course of dinner with brief descriptions accompanying each wine from representatives of The Cono Sur Winery. The evening’s featured wines will include Cono Sur Vision Sauvignon Blanc, Cono Sur Vision Chardonnay, Cono Sur Vision Carmenere, and Cono Sur Vision Cabernet Sauvignon- the winery’s first wine made from organically grown grapes, certified by BCS Oeko Garantie GMBH Germany.

You know you want yourself some brisket and ribs. I actually have a free day tomorrow, so I may venture out myself and get some BBQ for lunch.

Shutter Island Trailer

I used to just peruse the Apple website for new trailers every so often, but I recently smartened up and subscribed to their RSS feed so now I see the new trailers right when they come out. Sitting in my RSS feed today was the new trailer for Shutter Island - the movie that filmed in the area featuring Leonardo DiCaprio and Ben Kingsley (directed by Martin Scorsese).

Looks like a pretty exciting movie! Click (here) for my past blog entries on the filming of Shutter Island (Ashecliffe) from last year.

Contest: Free Tix to 2 Concerts on 6/18

6/11/2009 12:03:00 AM 0 Responses
There are two concerts going on 6/18 and I have a pair of tickets for each of them to give away to two lucky winners. The first band is the Dirty Projectors at Somerville Theatre and the second band is Low Anthem at the Brattle. Here's a little bit about each of the bands.

Providence, Rhode Island-based The Low Anthem celebrates the Nonesuch Records release of their previously self-released Oh My God, Charlie Darwin with a show at the Brattle Theatre. This trio of multi- instrumentalists plays languid, elegant music that is truly American.

The Low Anthem's Nonesuch debut offers an elegant and original take on Americana. The simple, folk-like structures of its songs are distinguished by hushed, hymn-like, chamber-music arrangements—as well as by the occasional, deliriously free-spirited acoustic rave-up. They have drawn comparisons to Tom Waits, Simon & Garfunkel, The Band, Grant Lee Buffalo, and the Scud Mountain Boys.

Fresh from a US tour with TV on the Radio and an appearance at Bonnaroo, the Dirty
Projectors, the Brooklyn-based vehicle for musical visionary David Longstreth, tour with an expanded six member lineup in support of their June 2009 release of Bitte Orca, their fifth full length album and first for Domino Records. Art rock with African, punk and R&B influences, the music of The Dirty Projectors is difficult to categorize, but names like David Byrne and Prince have been used as comparisons.

So, same rules as always. Send me an email with the name of the band that you want to see in the subject heading (Dirty Projectors or Low Anthem). Or if you wouldn't mind hearing either band, put both band names in the subject heading and I'll enter you in both drawings.

I'm going to do a separate drawing for each band. Oh, and in the body of the email, put your first and last name - I'll be submitting the winner's name to be put on the will call list of each concert.

Contest ends: Monday 6/15 @ 10pm EDT.

Zipcar Low Car Diet 2009

6/11/2009 12:02:00 AM 0 Responses
As some of you may know (if you were reading my blog last summer), I participated in Zipcar's Low Car Diet and had a pretty good time. I got to drive a Prius for the first time, and it also made me calculate just how much owning my car actually costs me each month - it's not pretty (here).

Well Zipcar is doing it again this year for a crop of new participants and they're currently accepting applications.

What is the Low-Car Diet?

For a month, we're asking you to put down your keys, dust off your bike, trike or roller skates and find out what the Zipcar way of life is all about.

Folks from across all 13 of our cities worldwide will rise to the challenge, committing their keys and their consciences to being car free.

Think you’re ready to join them? Fill out the questionnaire below.

Participants (assuming you've been approved as a safe driver) will get their first year's annual and application fees waived, and driving credit (along with a "car-free" survival kit filled with goodies from our sponsors) for the duration of the program.

Eligible entrants selected to participate will be notified by email.

Casting Call: Family Reality TV Show

6/10/2009 12:01:00 AM 1 Response
This could be a pretty good opportunity for a family out there that's in a bit of financial trouble and wouldn't be embarrassed to share it with the world while getting some help getting bailed out.
A production company is looking to make a reality tv show about helping a family to get out of debt. And that family could you yours.

Established Los Angeles TV production company is looking for a FUN, outgoing family with multiple children located anywhere in the US (although West Coast / West Coast-Adjacent preferred) who is currently dealing with BIG-TIME debt and totally FREAKING OUT about what to do. We are looking to potentially feature them in their own docu-style series that would help them go from big spenders to big savers -- and educate viewers (who can surely relate) along the way. Is this your family? Or someone you know? Did you buy a house before you were ready? Have you gone credit card crazy and now you're really paying for it? Are the student loan payments, car payments, mortgage, and daily expenses adding up? We want to help you get on track in a FUN, LASTING way! This is a positive, UPBEAT show! Interested?

Contact us for more information about our company and show. Please include a description of your family, 1-2 pictures, and your contact info.

The Breakup Workbook

6/09/2009 12:01:00 AM 0 Responses
Local author MJ Acharya has released a new book for the ladies entitled: The Breakup Workbook: A Common Sense Guide to Getting Over Your Ex. From what I'm reading, it's not just a book, it's an interactive experience.

The Breakup Workbook was written for everyone who has gone through; is going through, or who most probably will go through the pain and misery of a failed relationship. The book is the first to use technology to the reader’s advantage: it works concurrently with a website,, an interactive forum and a reference blog to maximize the reader’s healing potential. The forum contains nearly 20,000 posts from its 1,500 members from 32 different countries. Additionally, readers are encouraged to email the author for advice.

You know me and my love of supporting everything local. So for those of you that have an ex you need getting over - check out this book. It may just do the trick.

I have half a mind to pick up a copy and send it to my friend S.H. who just recently went thru a breakup and has been down in the dumps lately.

Strawberry Picking Season Soon

6/08/2009 12:02:00 AM 2 Responses
There are lots of different fruits and vegetables that we're able to pick here in New England during the summer and fall. Personally, I've never done it, but I've heard it can be pretty fun and delicious. Here's what the Improper Bostonian has to way on the topic:

This is about as short and sweet as it gets. For a few precious weeks - roughly June 20 - July 4 - New England fields flush a familiar shade of scarlet. Strawberry season at Ward's Berry Farm and at many other orchards, marks the unofficial start of the annual pick your own season...

Has anyone gone strawberry picking before? They grow on bushes right? Seems like it'd be a lot of work to pick strawberries. I envision being hunched over most of the time. Also, for those of you that have gone fruit/veggie picking before. Where do you like to go?

Scooper Bowl Starts - 6/9

6/08/2009 12:01:00 AM 0 Responses
It's that time again in the summer when we try to enjoy the somewhat warm weather we're having and gorge ourselves on ice cream. The 27th Annual Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl starts tomorrow 6/9 and runs through 6/11.

The Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl presented by FedEx is the nation's largest all-you-can-eat ice cream festival. The event serves up ice cream from nine of the nation's leading ice cream companies while raising money for the Jimmy Fund, which supports cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Thanks to your generous support, the 2008 Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl presented by FedEx raised more than $345,000, bringing the 26-year total to more than $2 million.

Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl
Presented by FedEx
June 9 – 11, 2009
Noon – 8 p.m. every day
City Hall Plaza, Boston

Sadly, I'm counting my calories these days and after this past weekend, I don't think I should be partaking in an all you can eat ice cream event.

"The Town" Starring Ben Affleck

6/05/2009 12:04:00 AM 1 Response
Thanks to Bloggery Reader Bill for the reminder of where I was reading about The Company Men's last few shoots. He reminded me it was in the Herald, and so I dug up the blurb which basically said that the Company Men won't finish shooting at Fenway Park until the weekend. So hopefully they'll still be there today if anyone's interested in looking for them.

On to newer news. Now that The Company Men is wrapping up, it allows Ben to move on to his next film called "The Town" which is going to be filmed in Charlestown.

Ben Affleck will rewrite, direct and star in The Town, a Warner Bros. adaptation of the Chuck Hogan novel "The Prince of Thieves," reports Variety. Graham King is producing through his GK Films.

Affleck would play a career thief who becomes smitten by the manager of a bank.
The project — which most recently had director Adrian Lyne attached — would be based in Charlestown, Mass., a gritty blue-collar Boston suburb similar to the one that Affleck captured in his directorial debut, Gone Baby Gone.

There was a casting call last week for "The Town" (which I missed the news on - sorry) so I guess that means filming will be commencing soon.

Black Eyed Peas Listening Party - 6/6

6/05/2009 12:03:00 AM 0 Responses
I've been to one Black Eyed Peas concert. It was a couple of years ago when they were on tour with the Pussycat Dolls. I didn't really want to see the Peas, my interest was really just in the PCD's. Imagine my discontent when I showed up and found out that PCD had canceled and they got Danity Kane instead. But as it turned out the Black Eyed Peas were really good and Fergie also debuted that London Bridge song of hers.

The Grammy award winning Black Eyed Peas have announced Felt Club Boston as the Boston-area venue to house the premier listening party for their new album, “The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies)”on Saturday, June 6th from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. The album will officially launch to the public on June 9, 2009. This event is free and open to the public with RSVP.

The listening party, hosted by Universal Music Distribution for Interscope, Geffen and A&M Octone will also feature a “Boom Boom Pow” cocktail in honor of the BEP’s current single off the new album. The first 20 people in attendance will receive Black Eyed Peas t-shirts and one lucky winner will receive an 8GB nano-chromatic iPod. This premier party is for young professionals, ages 21+.
