MA Movie Studio Construction

There are currently 4 proposed movie studio ventures in Massachusetts, the most famous one is the one in Plymouth, but I stumbled upon a nice little Boston.com summary that has some details on all four of them. Fingers crossed that all four of these get built and that we never get rid of those film tax credits - then we'll be guaranteed to have a steady stream of movies filmed here for the foreseeable future.

PLYMOUTH ROCK STUDIOS
Location: Plymouth
Size: 14 sound stages on 240 acres, plus office space
Cost: $450 million
Key players: Former Paramount executives David Kirkpatrick and Earl Lestz; former Boston Celtics CFO Joe DiLorenzo

SOUTH BOSTON FILM AND TELEVISION CENTER
Location: Boston
Size: Two 20,000-square-foot sound stages, plus office space
Cost: N/A

Location: South Weymouth
Size: 12 sound stages on 30 acres, with 125,000 square feet of retail and office space
Cost: $100 million
Key players: Producers and studio operators Robert Papazian and James Hirsch; former Massachusetts Film Commissioner Mark Drago; former Massachusetts Senate president Robert Travaglini

    I attended a Mass. Film Office meeting on these studio projects. The meeting attracted about 700 people! The excitement for the creation of these studios is sky-high. I can't wait!
