In 1983, Eileen Collins and Brandt Heckert started making desserts for local restaurants. Although they had no formal training or experience, they did have a simple concept, "provide quality and consistency". The response was overwhelmingly positive and they decided to open a small shop on historical Federal Hill.
I took a picture of the one we brought back last week, but the picture on the website is way better so I'm posting that one instead. Yes, $40 bucks is pretty expensive for a fruit tart, but it's so good that you could tell me there's crack in it and I'd probably believe you and then subsequently ask you to pick one up for me while you're down in Providence.
Be sure to call ahead and make sure they hold one for you if you're really planning on driving down there. Because (from experience) there is nothing worse than driving all the way down there and then finding out that they're sold out of the fruit tarts for the day.
