Latest U2 Rumors

3/10/2009 12:31:00 PM
I can't believe they still haven't released the venue for the U2 concert. It's tomorrow! Anyways, as most of you can tell, everything that the newspapers have been posting is just speculation so I figured I'd fill you in on the latest rumors.

The Boston Herald thinks it'll be the Somerville Theater.

That 50 Somerville cops have been told to report for duty for U2’s reported club date at the Somerville Theatre . Think the men in blue will turn down that gig????

The Boston Globe says that the latest (unlikely) rumor is the Orpheum

This cloak-and-dagger business can't last forever. Or can it? Reps for U2 are remaining mum about the band's much-discussed "secret show" here tomorrow night. The latest word is - wait for it - the Orpheum. But that's almost surely nonsense since Hall & Oates are booked there tomorrow.

If you can't score tickets, you can at least listen to the concert on the radio. WBCN will be broadcasting it at 9 p.m.

PS. FYI, I've also received some other rumors via email that a daycare center in Davis and supposedly the Davis T stop would be closed for part of tomorrow because U2 is going to be performing at the Somerville Theater. Take it all with a grain of salt.

UPDATE: This from Bloggery Reader Steve - a link to a Globe blurb (here) that again says it's going to be held at the Somerville Theatre:

The much-buzzed about U2 show will be happening tomorrow at the Somerville Theatre. How can we -- finally -- be so sure? Because roadies are loading the band's equipment into the hall right now, cops are posted around Davis Square, and Meacham Road, right behind the theater, is blocked off.

    Hi Anonymous,
I was referring to the venue for tomorrow's secret performance.

Thanks for posting their Gillette concert date, though. I've read that tickets should go on sale soon.

I have a friend who won tickets through a radio contest for a private showing at Paradise tomorrow night. He had to write a fake rock 'n roll resume. No idea what that is, but he's definitely seeing Bono and the boyz tomorrow night at Paradise!

that makes no sense... close the T because of a club show? what, they expect 10,000 people with no tickets to just hang around and what, hope to see them for 6.5 seconds as they run to their limos after playing 5 songs?
that is all they are going to play supposedly. at the LA club show they didn't play any

    Hi Moviequill,

I agree with you that it makes no sense to shut down the T. I just figured I'd post what people have been sending me.
