Newbury St. Stores Calling It Quits

2/04/2009 12:01:00 AM
There was a recent article in the Globe about how shops on Newbury St. are calling it quits because of rising rents and declining sales. After reading the article, I decided to take a stroll down Newbury and see it for myself.

Things are just as bad as the article said. Folks are clearing out. I'm also privy to some info about some upcoming changes in Chinatown as well. There's a good chance that you can say goodbye to Ginza (supposedly closed this past Saturday) and Shabuzen (once it's lease runs out)

It's going to be an interesting year. Survival of the fittest, I suppose - Darwin would be proud.

  1. Dan Dan Said,

Actually, I made a reservation last week for dinner at Excelsior tomorrow. Got a call telling me that their last day was on Saturday, and they're closed too...

I knew Newbury rents would force some folks out but it's been a while since I'd walked down the street. As soon as the sidewalks clear up a bit, I am going to take my own walk over there. Sad.
