Mall Cop Is Number 1 This Weekend

1/19/2009 12:01:00 AM
Kevin James's Mall Cop which was filmed locally is number one this weekend in the box office. Thanks to Bloggery Reader Michael for sending me the link to the stats. The movie was shown at 3144 theaters and brought in a total of $33.8MM.

With most of the country is in the throes of winter, theatres became a warm alternative to frostbite. A very warm alternative. Not only will the weekend go down as the best MLK Jr. weekend on record, but the overall grosses for all films in release will place this weekend as one of the Top 10 of all-time.

Kevin James’ Paul Blart Mall Cop was the big pig over the holiday weekend tracking down $33.8 million and recouping its budget of $26 million in just three days of release.

It's nice to see one the movies filmed here doing well. Bride Wars didn't seem to do too well, I didn't track the box office results for that one but the reviews were pretty bad.
