Boston's Parking Prices 2nd Highest

8/04/2008 12:05:00 AM
Surprise, surprise, Boston has really expensive parking - the 2nd most expensive to be exact.

In just the last week, there's been the new North End condo project where folks don't want the underground parking garage (here) and then the remodel of Jacob Wirth (here) - which I'm assuming would remove the parking lot that's there right now? I drove past the parking lot near Jacob Wirth on Saturday, it looked like there were cars parking there.

Boston's notoriously expensive parking rates won an ignominious honor last month. The city commands the nation's second-highest monthly parking rate - $460 - trailing only New York. Its daily rate, $33, comes in at a relative bargain: third place after New York ($35-$40 depending on the area) and Honolulu ($44).

Less parking availability is only going to lead to higher prices. Unless the goal is to push the prices so high that it becomes cost prohibitive to own a car. If that's the case - I really hope they do a major overhaul of our public transportation systems like I alluded to (here).
