L'Espalier Moving In September

7/17/2008 12:22:00 AM
I first blogged about L'Espalier's upcoming move over a year ago (here). For those of you that haven't heard, Frank McClelland is going to be moving his flagship restaurant over to the new Mandarin Oriental. If you want to go check it out before it moves, you've got about a month and a half left to do it.

Frank McClelland, executive chef/owner of L’Espalier, confirmed Tuesday that his restaurant will move from its current location on Gloucester Street in Boston’s Back Bay to Boylston Street within the new Mandarin Oriental Boston Hotel & Residences on Sept. 15, 2008. The Back Bay landmark will close its doors with a final dinner at 30 Gloucester Street on Aug. 30.

I took my own advice and had dinner there two weekends ago. I have to admit, it wasn't nearly as good as I had remembered. To be fair, I went to French Laundry back in April and was probably holding L'Espalier to too high of a standard. The food was good, but not amazing. French Laundry was amazing.

A number of people are sad about this move; hopefully they know what they are doing and the new space wil be as nice as the old one...
