Matt Murphy's Featured in Esquire

The latest issue of Esquire had a feature on the best sandwiches in America. I love reading about restaurants in magazines, gives me an excuse to try out a new restaurant. Only one restaurant in Massachusetts made their list and that was Matt Murphy's of Brookline. Here's what Esquire had to say:

In a land teeming with trite Irish pubs, Matt Murphy’s stands alone: no Gaelic street signs, no U2 poster, no “Molly Bloom Mozzarella Stix.” But this hits you like a Joycean epiphany: sirloin, cooked until it dissolves on the crusty potato bread, and pickles, daubed with sweet relish and a sauce bearing the faintest rumor of mint.

Now, any list of "Best Sandwiches" that includes McDonald's and Chick-Fil-A is a little suspicious to me, but given the chance, I will make my way down to Matt Murphy's and try the Lamb Sirloin.

For those of you out there reading, any favorites that you'd recommend? I'm a big fan of the Sedona Chicken Sandwich at the Cottonwood Cafe and any sandwich served at the Publick House in Brookline.

There's a few in CT and one in Maine if you're looking to make a sandwich roadtrip tour - which actually sounds like a pretty fun idea. This coming from a guy who's driven to Philly to have a cheesesteak and also driven to New Jersey to have a certain Rutgers food truck sandwich that shall remain nameless so that I don't offend anyone.

    Pastrami at Sam LaGrassas downtown. Meaty, sweet, and almost too big to eat.
