First it was Matt Murphy's in Esquire (here) and now it's Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe in Details Magazine. And again, it's a place I haven't been. I know what you're thinking - yes I've been here 8 years - but I keep on going to the same few places. I will broaden my horizons, I swear.

Although, not going to Charlie's isn't entirely my fault. I walked past it numerous times to try to grab food while I lived in the South End, and there was always a long wait. Being the impatient person that I was, I always left. Now that Charlie's is nationally renowned, I guess the lines will be even longer.

The article in Details was about the best places in America for Breakfast. Here's what they have to say about Charlie's:

Few 80-year-old restaurants lack for lore, but not very many can brag about having served blacks and whites alike during segregation—making eggs for regulars like Duke Ellington, and letting a young Sammy Davis Jr. inside to dance for pocket change. All the while, Charlie’s was making turkey hash that may have single-handedly won this South End diner its James Beard Foundation America’s Classics award. Local chefs, tourists, and Beantowners white-collar and blue- gather on stools at the Formica counter, not so much for the sandwiches that give the place its name, which are fine, but for the archetypal pancakes, perfectly poached eggs and toast, and charred, juicy links of sausage.

Don't worry about it. I've been here my entire life and I've never heard of the place.

    To Ross:
Thanks for the recommendation. I'm a huge fan of corned beef hash, so I'll definitely give their turkey hash a try.
