African Film Festival @ MFA

2/01/2008 12:58:00 PM
The Museum of Fine Arts is hosting the 8th Annual Boston African Film Festival this month. Running from Today until the end of the month of February (2/1-2/29) the MFA will be showcasing highlights from the NY African Film Festival as well as new African Cinema releases.

Thirteen new films will be debuting in Boston and span nations throughout Africa including: Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo (it was called Zaire when I was a kid), Guinea, Nigeria, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.

Click (here) for event details and a schedule of the movies that will be played. I have a few friends from Africa and from what they've told me, we get a very skewed perspective of what is going on there through mainstream American media.

I think it'd be a good exercise in cultural awareness to see what true African movies are like as opposed to just watching Leonardo DiCaprio running around Africa in search of diamonds.
