Cambridge Carnival Festival - 8/26

8/23/2007 10:33:00 AM
This Sunday, 8/26 - the 15th Annual Cambridge Carnival will be held in Kendall Square from noon to 7pm. The parade route has been expanded and will span 1.5 miles passing through Cambridgeport, Central Square and Kendall Square in Cambridge.

Caribbean Carnival International, is a colorful and festive celebration that is rooted in African traditions. Carnival secretly allowed public communication and cultural bonding for the Afro-Caribbean cultures from as far back as the 1600s.

This year's festival will feature seven entertainment zones: a live music zone with Reggae, Soca, Calypso, World Music, and New Orleans's Jazz; a KidsFest zone; 4 DJ zones representing a variety of music from the Caribbean, and a steel band zone.

I was in St. Thomas in April, which is when they celebrate Carnival over there. It was a lot of fun. The parties went on until the sun came up. If you're all salsa'd out after Saturday's event, swing by the Cambridge Carnival on Sunday and spend the afternoon hanging out with friends and family. Click (here) for the official website.
