Summer of Inconvenience

6/13/2007 04:41:00 PM
Is summertime a slow season for everyone? The weather is finally nice and it seems like the city is shutting down. I wrote previously about the numerous clubs on Lansdowne that will be getting renovated this summer (here).

Now, to kick you while you're already down, I saw an announcement today that the Hong Kong in Harvard Sq will be closing for renovations as well. According to the announcement the kitchen and bar will remain open during this time, but I'm not quite sure what that means. I've contacted them to see if they can provide any details and will post what I learn as soon as I hear back.

In the meantime, where else can I find scorpion bowls, little plastic animals, and underaged Harvard students with fake ID's all in one place?

But wait, it get's worse. Not only will several of your favorite hangouts be closed, but you'll have trouble getting there as well. The D line (Green Line) is going to be closed from June 23rd to August 31st for renovations.

During phase 1 (June 23 - Aug 3) a bus service will run from Riverside to Reservoir.

During phase 2 (Aug 4 - Aug 31) a bus service will run from Reservoir to Fenway.

I guess our fair city loses a huge chunk of its population when all the students go home, so it makes summer ideal for renovations. But what about us old folk that still want to go out?

UPDATE: As promised, here is the official update from the Kong:

Many of the details are still up in the air but here’s what I know right now. The 1st floor dining room will be closed for a 6-8 week period. The exact dates aren’t known yet. The 2nd and 3rd floor will continue to remain open with a short period where I anticipate that the entrance work will need to be done and we may have to close the entire building. However, I am unsure when or if this will even have to happen. I hope to have all this completed by September 1st. That is all I have at this point as there are many details that still need to be worked out.
