The Hard Rock Cafe Relocates

6/30/2007 11:01:00 PM
As you may have already noticed, the Hard Rock Cafe closed its doors last week after 18 years at its location in the Back Bay/South End area. What you may not know is that the new Hard Rock Cafe is opening up on Monday July 2nd in the location that formerly housed The Rack in Fanuil Hall.

The new Hard Rock Cafe Boston will be one of the city’s largest entertainment destinations, with more than 16,000-square feet of space, including a 514-seat restaurant, a live music area for concerts and special events

I'm not exactly sure when the opening ceremony will be (but if i find out I will update my post) but a bunch of local celebs will be there and they will be smashing 71 guitars to commemorate the founding of the very first Hard Rock Cafe in London in 1971. You read correctly.....71 guitars.....what a waste. Maybe they could donate 71 guitars signed by these celebs to some underprivileged kids instead and do something productive.

Anyway, here's a list of the celebs (if you can call them that) that will be attending:

Tom Menino - mayor
Barry Goudreau - original guitarist for the rock band Boston
James Montgomery - blues singer
Damone - rock band
Jordan Knight - former New Kid On The Block
Blue Man Group
Phil Kessel - Bruins player
Rita Gilligan - Employee at the London Hard Rock who has been there since it opened in 1971

I think of the whole bunch, Rita has the most impressive credentials. I haven't really heard of anyone else other than the mayor.

  1. Angela Said,

I can't believe how quickly they got that place renovated and ready to open. My sister worked at the Rack for years and was thrilled when she heard it was being forced out.
